Murder accused fires gunshots in Sector 34
Chandigarh, August 31
Exposing the poor co-ordination between the Punjab Police and its Chandigarh counterpart, a murder accused opened fire this afternoon creating panic in the busy Sector 34 after he saw some Punjab Police personnel chasing him in a car.

Road rage leaves two injured
Chandigarh, August 31
In an incident of road rage reported at the Sectors 22 and 23 lights this afternoon, two students were injured following a bawl among four youths. The police arrested two Batala residents, identified as Pawas Preet Singh and Lovpreet Singh, in a case of causing hurt and criminal intimidation under Sections 323, 506 of the IPC.

Three call centre employees lose Rs 17,000
Mohali, August 31
Three employees of a Mohali-based call centre have become the victims of an ATM fraud and have lost their hard-earned money to cyber criminals.
The victims, who are working at Competent Synergies in the Phase VII Industrial Area at
Mohali, complained to the police that fraudsters used their State Bank of Patiala debit cards in Ludhiana over a period of three days.

Model Code of Conduct comes into force at PU

There will be no late night meetings at the tents erected by the student organisations on the PU campus, as this year, the university authorities have decided not to allow students to stay at these tents after 11pm.

de-siltation drive in Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary this year and the next to ensure sufficient flow of water to the city’s landmark lake.

716 shops auctioned, CTU gets Rs 1.98 lakh

The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) in an open auction of shops at ISBT-17 today generated a monthly income of Rs 1.98 lakh. Of the total 42 premises put up for auction, 16 shops were leased out for a period of 11 months against lease money of Rs 1.98 lakh per month.

NCC sailing expedition flagged off

In order to inculcate team spirit and generate interest in water sports and adventure activities, No.1 Chandigarh Naval NCC Unit is undertaking a 12-day long sailing expedition at the Gobind Sagar reservoir. Around 80 personnel, comprising of 40 boys, 20 girls and 20 staff members, are participating in the expedition.

Model Code of Conduct comes into force at PU
Parties to carry out processions only on specified routes within the campus

Flouting election norms, UILS holds freshers’ party

Although Panjab University claims to adopt a no-tolerance policy after the implementation of the model code of conduct following the announcement of election schedule, the rules were clearly flouted during the organisation of a freshers’ party for the students of the University Institute of Legal Studies at the PU Law Auditorium today.
