New Delhi, June 4 While replying to the debate, the Chief Minister announced that the proposals to levy five per cent VAT on CNG and five per cent VAT on costly textile items are being dropped, keeping in view the sentiments expressed by the people and legislators. Khadi would not attract any VAT either. She said that 20 per cent VAT on enhanced price of petrol would be waived very soon. The government would not like to burden the citizens with these levies, she added. Dikshit stated that the estimated budget of Delhi government for the year 2012-2013 is a zero loan budget and would go a long way in meeting the present-day requirements of the people of Delhi. Gross State Domestic Project (GSDP) ratio has reduced from 16.04 per cent in 2007-08 to 9.43 per cent during 2011-12., which is the lowest in the country. Over 94 per cent of budget would be met from local sources. The target in the current fiscal for tax collection is Rs 26,150 crore. The outstanding loan which was Rs 30,140 crore as on March 31, 2011, has been reduced to Rs 29,608 crore as on March 31, 2012. The Social Service Sector has been given due importance keeping in view the needs of vulnerable sections. "Our per capita plan expenditure which was Rs 2,892 in 2001 has increased to Rs 8,700 in 2011. Out of Rs 8,700, an amount of Rs 5,682 is on social sector. Our approved Plan outlay has seen 4.5 fold increase. It was Rs 3,800 crore in 2011-12 and has gone up to Rs 15,000 crore in 2012-13," she said. "The GSDP has increased from Rs 70,353 in 2001 to Rs 3,13,934 in 2011-12," the Chief Minister said. She stated that the two new schemes announced in the budget will benefit a large number of poor families. Under the Delhi Annshri Scheme, two lakh households will be provided with the food subsidy of Rs 600 per month as cash transfer to the eldest member of the family. |
Indian Stamp, Court Fees (Amend) Bills passed
New Delhi, June 4 While giving justification to the need of the Bills, Walia answered the queries raised by the members. The two Bills were passed by a voice vote, he said. Walia stated that an amendment to the Article 10 of the schedule I-A of the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, is applicable to Delhi. The amendment approved by the Legislative Assembly will help the city government collect its legitimate stamp duty. A committee of the Delhi High Court asked the city government to start e-court fee. Another suicide on metro tracks
New Delhi, June 4 A woman named Seema jumped in front of a moving train at Platform 1. The train was plying on the Dwarka-Noida line. Meanwhile, concerned over the numerous cases of suicides happening at metro stations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is implementing several preventive measures. A DMRC spokesperson said, "We plan to increase the height and range of the boundary walls at the elevated platforms of all stations. We are surveying the stations to ascertain the feasibility of the plan." To further deter people from jumping onto the tracks, the DMRC is in the process of installing 'screen doors' at the stations. The plan, still in its preliminary stages, will be introduced at six underground stations on the Central Secretariat-Kashmiri Gate corridor. "The screen doors will prevent people from jumping onto the tracks and rushing into the coaches and thus check accidents due to untimely closure of metro doors," the spokesperson added. |
