Batala, November 12

According to sources, the shopkeepers of Chakri Bazar gathered and started cleaning drains and roads of the area, which have been lying unclean for more than a week as safai sewaks continues with their agitation.

The municipal safai sewak reacted to the action taken by the shopkeepers and soon both the sides started stone-pelting.

Police resorted to mild lathi charge in order to normalise the situation. In the meantime, Jagdish Sawhney, MLA, and Ambika Khanna, President Municipal Council, arrived at the seen and appealed to the groups to calm down. They started cleaning the roads by themselves at which the safai sewaks raised anti-state government slogans.

They appealed to the agitating employees to adopt a peaceful means to continue with their agitation.
