Brother, sister booked for fraud
Nawanshahr, November 10
The brother-sister duo of Rajiv Verma and Kiran Verma, residents of Mohalla Basant Bihar, Baltana in Zirakpur of Mohali district have been booked for committing burglaries at two jewellery shops here in true ‘Bunty & Babli’ style. The police has registered a case under Section 420 of IPC on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kulwant Rai and Baljit Kumar of Ujjagar Mall Jewellers and BK Prince Jewellers near Nehru Gate and Railway Road here. In his complaint, Kulwant Rai stated that the accused came to his shop at 1 pm in an Alto car (HP-03C-1201) and introduced themselves as Rajiv and Kiran, son and daughter of Bharath Singh of Zirakpur, and asked for a ring for men.

3 killed in mishaps
Nawanshahr: Two brothers, identified as Ram Chander and Ramesh Kumar of Ropar, were killed when their motorcycle collided with a Mahindra jeep near Tonsa village on the Jalandhar-Nawanshahr- Chandigarh highway on Thursday. Brothers were going to Ropar from Balachaur on a motorcycle. The highway patrolling police took them to the Civil Hospital, Ropar, where they succumbed to injuries. The police has nabbed the driver of Mahindra jeep, identified as Bittu of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.

Brother, sister booked for fraud

The brother-sister duo of Rajiv Verma and Kiran Verma, residents of Mohalla Basant Bihar, Baltana in Zirakpur of Mohali district have been booked for committing burglaries at two jewellery shops here in true ‘Bunty & Babli’ style. The police has registered a case under Section 420 of IPC on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kulwant Rai and Baljit Kumar of Ujjagar Mall Jewellers and BK Prince Jewellers near Nehru Gate and Railway Road here.

In his complaint, Kulwant Rai stated that the accused came to his shop at 1 pm in an Alto car (HP-03C-1201) and introduced themselves as Rajiv and Kiran, son and daughter of Bharath Singh of Zirakpur, and asked for a ring for men.

They bought a ring costing Rs 18,000. The girl took out an old ring from her purse and asked the value of the ring to be adjusted against weight of the ring they had just bought. The ring valued at Rs 22,000 was kept and Rs 4,000 was returned to the accused after deducting the cost of the new ring, the complainant said.The ring was later found to be a fake.

He went found the brother-sister duo at BK Prince Jeweller on Railway Road, where they were allegedly playing the same trick.

When he told Baljit Kumar of BK Prince Jeweller about the fraud committed by them, Baljit Kumar cut the ring given to him and found that it was also made of copper. The accused fled from the spot leaving their car behind.

In another accident, Ravi Kumar (14), a resident of Prem Nagar, Asron, was killed when his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
