Delay in Formation of New House Committees
Mussoorie, September 29 Chauhan, alleging incompetence on the part of MC president OP Uniyal, said he was delaying the formation of the committees in the council and stalling the constitutional right of the ward members. He also said these committees should have been formed in July, but due to autocratic attitude of the president, no action had been initiated so far. Chauhan said the MC president was indulging in favouritism. He awarded the contract of construction of road from Vishnu Palace to Gaddi Khana amounting to Rs 44,26,700 to his own brother-in-law Manish Mamgain. Chauhan further alleged that the contract had been awarded to usurp the grant, provided by the 13th State Planning Commission under the head of tourism promotion, to build the road. Chauhan walked out of the meeting demanding enquiry against executive officer Rohtash Sharma and MC President OP Uniyal into
the matter. OP Uniyal said he was ready to form house committees but in consultation with all ward members and not on the direction of any one individual. On the issue of awarding contract to his brother-in-law, he said it had been done in accordance with the rules of the council and he was open to any investigation in this regard.
Besides, members approved the construction of town hall with their own funds as the proposal of building it under the PPP pattern was turned down unanimously. The council also approved of commencing the city bus service from October 2 and discussed establishing a hospital of 30 beds at Barlowganj with the assistance of Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant, Rishikesh. |
World Heart Day
Dehradun, September 29 Life style induced stress and faulty eating habits are giving rise to heart diseases among the youth, so much so the average age in which a person may suffer a heart attack has come down from 40 years to 30 years. “Improper food habits, lack of physical activity, coupled with high level of stress and increase in smoking and alcohol consumption are all classic risk factors. All these have become a part of the Indian youths’ lifestyle,” said Dr Anurag Rawat, DM, Cardiologist Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT), at a seminar on World Heart Day today. Rawat said the Low Density Cholesterol (LDL), which was a result of such food habits, had put Indians in the high-risk zone as far as the heart diseases were concerned. “The cholesterol gets deposited in the arteries, making them narrow. As a result, the blood supply to the heart gets thwarted. This leads to heart attacks,” he stated. Dr Rawat recommended a combination of diet consisting of vegetables and fruits and regular exercise to keep the heart healthy. |

Dehradun, September 29 Before one starts wondering the way she plays, one least realises that she has been holding the first place in the TT junior (Under-18) and youth (U-21) for over one year now in India. “Though I faced little difficulties initially, I never had any problem with my weight,” the champion said during a chat with The Tribune here at the sports college today. Bhandarkar, who started playing at the tender age of five years said, “My father has a table tennis club back home in Nagpur. My interest got developed in the game from there. Promotional benefits elude pensioners
Dehradun, September 29 The third-scale promotions were given to the employees of the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board (UPSEB) a year ago. Since the power department of the state has not formulated its own service rules, it still continues to depend on the service rules of the UPSEB. GN Kautiyal, president of the Junior Engineer Association of the UPCL said, “When the UPCL came into existence in 2003, officials and employees of the UPSEB joined the UPCL on a condition that they would not be given lesser benefits than their counterparts in the UPSEB. But we are seeing that serving employees got the benefits of the third-scale promotions four months ago, the pensioners continue to suffer.” Managing Director, UPCL, Anil Kumar Jain said this matter was approved at the Board of Directors meeting and sent to the approval of the state government a couple of days ago. But president of the Pensioners Association and former MD, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, RP Thapliyal said the department needed to be more sensitive towards senior citizens. “The delay on the part of the UPCL has cost the pensioners heavily as several of them are in their 80s. In such a scenario when inflation is also rising rapidly, the pensioners’ welfare should be taken into consideration,” he said. |
Police team honoured for tracing children
Dehradun, September 29 Pandey interacted with the children and felicitated the police team with citation and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 while terming this case as one of the best examples of community policing. DIG Seth told reporters this was the sensitivity towards children and coordinated efforts of police, Child Helpline and Shishu Graha that made it possible. The DIG said on July 26 this year that the Dehradun police received information that two children had been found in a park in the Engineers Enclave area of Vasant Vihar. Chowki Incharge Indira Nagar Jaiprakash Kohli reached the spot following this and made preliminary enquiries from the siblings (three-year-old Suraj and five-year-old Ganga). Since the children were very small, they could not divulge much information regarding their family. They informed the police that they had come to Dehradun with their mother and she had left them in the park with some eatables, after promising to return in a while. However, when she did not turn up after quite some time, the children panicked and began to cry for help. The police from Vasant Vihar took them around all the probable areas in and around Dehradun, including Sattowali ghati, Shastrinagar khala and others but to no avail. However, after much efforts the police could find their father Bhim Singh after one and a half year in Kotdwar district this month. |
