3 held for woman’s murder
Dehradun, September 24 Addressing a press conference here, SSP Gopal Nath Goswami said two of the accused, Sachin of Baliwala Chowk, and Dineshpal of GMS Road, had allegedly murdered the old woman and looted the house while the third accused, Sunny of Vikasnagar, had helped them in hiding the booty. He said they had recovered Rs 28,000, gold ornaments and the deceased’s cellphone and passport from the trio’s procession. The police had got information that Sachin who used to study in Sarasvati Mandir School situated near the victim’s house would often visit her and helped her in her household works. However, he had been missing after the incident. Sachin and one of his friends, Dinesh, were allegedly planning to loot a house. As they were looking for a soft target, they planned to loot Kailash Bhatnagar’s house. On September 12, the duo managed to gain entry to her house at 8 pm and hid behind the stairs of the house to wait for the woman to sleep. At 12:30 am, they tied her hands, legs and face with the sari she was wearing. They asked her for the keys of the almirah to which she refused. Later, the duo allegedly strangled her and broke down the almirah and took away Rs 60,000 in cash, gold and silver ornaments, a watch, the victim’s cellphone and passport. Sunny had allegedly helped Sachin and Dinesh in selling the ornaments and later deposit the cash in his account. After the incident, Sachin had left for Amristar while Dinesh started living at Sunny’s rented house at Vikasnagar. However, thinking that the matter was now dead, the duo again started living in Dehradun. However, they were later arrested by the police. The police team that carried out the entire operation has been given a cash prize. |
Face of the
week
Dehradun, September 24 “In an interview conducted by the college management and the university last week, I have been selected as the principal of DAV PG College but technically some formalities are yet to be performed,” he said. Bhasin, who is a former student of DAV PG College and has served as Chairman of the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) for four years, favours major developments in the curriculum and activities of the college. He wants to upgrade the infrastructure and encourage quality education on the college campus. “My prime objective as a Principal of the college will be to keep a check on the hooliganism, which has been associated with the college’s name as a label for years. Control the anti-social activities in the college will be the tedious job for which I expect students also to cooperate,” he added. Bhasin was a state spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party and media convener of the state ruling party but admits that his political activities has nothing to do with the functioning of the college movement. “My political activities are way behind the gates of the college campus and I never let them influence or hamper the functions of the college,” asserts Bhasin. On being asked what are the challenges he is facing or will face as the principal of the college, he replies, “The strength of the college is the most challenging thing to handle. As per the government and the University Grants Commission (UGC), the college was sanctioned to have about 12,500 students only but it has now exceeded to 33,500 due to which the productivity of the institution has deteriorated.” “I have put a restriction on the strength of students from the new academic session and I am now working on controlling the examination process of the college. However, we are also working on the settlement of the results of 2500 students of the college, which are yet to be declared by the university,” added the chairman of state media advisory committee. He swanks on his accomplishment of conducting peaceful the college Student Council elections this year while looks forward to the proposal sent to the UGC for gaining the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation for the college. |
Rush of patients from UP at Doon Hospital
Tribune News Service
Dehradun, September 24 Poor medical facilities in these towns is forcing the patients to flock to Dehradun and Doon hospital that has to make arrangements for additional rush of patients from outside. “Inadequate arrangements there are forcing the patients to come to Dehradun. Most of these hospitals do not have blood separators (used to separate blood components). We have established a special response team comprising physicians and experts to tackle dengue cases,” said Dr BC Pathak, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital. He said the misuse of the platelet therapy while treating serious cases of dengue was also responsible for the rush of patients at the hospital. “In serious cases, the platelet (blood component) therapy is required, but it should not be the norm. Only if there is evidence of bleeding and platelets count dips below 20,000, a dengue patient should be administered blood. But these general rules are ignored and in panic patients rush to hospitals which have blood separators,” said SD Joshi, a senior physician. However, the symptoms at times may be confusing as the disease sets in with high fever, headache and even muscular and joint pains. “Recently, the cases of fever were reported in Chakrata, Sahiya and Kalsi, but so far dengue cases have not been reported from these areas. Dengue cases in the state have been reported from Haridwar and we have set up a team to monitor the situation in Sultanpur village,” said Dr Asha Mather, Director-General, Health and Family Welfare. |
