33 local TDS defaulters to face I-T heat

The TDS (tax deducted at source) wing of the income tax department has initiated prosecution proceedings against 33 local assessees, including corporate, non-corporate and individuals, for non-deposition of TDS, amounting to several lakhs, for more than a year.

Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd penalised Rs 5,000

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd to pay Rs 5,000 as litigation charges and recover electricity bill from complainant Dilabar Singh, a resident of Jalbehra village, on monthly minimum charges from November 30, 2010, to March 11, 2011.

NHAI guilty of ignoring disabled: High Court

Holding the National Highways Authority of India guilty of violating the provisions of “Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act by not providing the disabled with the means of crossing the highways, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the authority and Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police to act.

2 held in ATM fraud case

In the ATM fraud case, the Panchkula police has arrested IndusInd’s bank relationship officer Nikhil Sharma and his brother Ankur Sharma from Ambala.

Conmen rob deliveryman
Chandigarh: Two unidentified conmen in a car bearing a Delhi registration number cheated a deliveryman and took away an LCD and an LED worth Rs 32,000 from him. One of the conmen introduced himself as the son of the owner of King Electronic at Kharar to the deliveryman, Vishsher Tanti. The incident took place near the Sector 39-40 roundabout.
