Jalandhar, June 28
Cracking the two-and-a-half-year-old abduction case of a girl, the Jalandhar police today arrested the accused, but only after the girl became the mother of the abductor’s daughter. The accused was already married at the occurrence of the crime.

The police said the case dated back to March, 2009, when the girl was abducted by Ajay Sharma, resident of Raj Nagar locality. Since then, despite relentless efforts made by the girl’s family and the police, both of them remained untraced. Recently, the girl managed to contact one of her relatives and informed him of her whereabouts.

The SHO, Jasbir Singh, in charge, Basti Bawa Khel police division, said after the abduction, the girl’s family had alleged that Ajay’s wife and two of his relatives had also connived with Ajay in the execution of the crime.

“The girl’s family had alleged that Ajay had no child from his wife. With the desire to have an issue from the victim, the couple planed to abduct the girl,” said the SHO. Earlier, a case under Section 366 of the IPC was registered against all the four at Maqsudaan police station, he added.

“Since her abduction, the girl stayed with Ajay Sharma at different locations, including Bilaspur, Manali and finally at Dhadari Kalaan, near Ludhiana. The girl had no contact number of any of her relative. Somehow, she managed to trace the contact number of one of her relative and told him about her whereabouts at Dhandari Kalaan, where the police nabbed Ajay Sharma,” added Jasbir Singh.

Jasbir said the girl would be produced in the court tomorrow. Meanwhile, converting the original sections, the police had now registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC against Ajay Sharma, he said.

Jalandhar, June 28
Terming the ruling SAD-BJP regime as ‘anti-Dalit’, BSP national general secretary Narinder Kumar Kashyap said the party would try to form the next government in Punjab by uprooting the Akalis in the state.

Kashyap lambasted the so-called ‘pro-Dalit’ stand of the SAD-BJP government and said if Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal can withdraw ‘vendetta’ cases against Captain Amarinder Singh, then why he is not withdrawing cases against Dalits following post-Vienna riots.

Further answering a query pertaining to an alliance to contest the next Assembly elections in the state, Kashyap said, “BSP will contest on its own. There is no question of an alliance with ruling government as our previous experience with SAD for making alliance was not good. The Akalis had betrayed BSP”, he claimed.
