Sikh outfits to file  complaint against PC
: The Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) on Tuesday said they would file a criminal complaint against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who recently urged the Sikhs to “forget” the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and “move on”. AISSF chief Karnail Singh Peermohammad said the criminal complaint will be filed under Section 153B(1)(b) of the IPC for advising Sikhs to forget their right to get justice as citizens of India for the “crimes” committed against them in November 1984.

‘ANM student’s death not natural’
: The PHRC, Bathinda, in its preliminary report into the death of Malka Rani, a student of ANM course at the nursing college in the local Civil Hospital, has said there was a conspiracy to show her suicide as a case of natural death. Ved Parkash Gupta said the inquiry was still on. On the basis of the statement of the girl’s brother, police registered a case under Section 306 of IPC against the officiating principal of the college Kamal Kaur.

Mungo is Additional Advocate General
: The Punjab Government on Tuesday appointed Gian Singh Mungo as Additional Advocate General with immediate effect up to February 29, 2012, on contract basis. A government spokesperson said Mungo would be at the disposal of the state government and would do all the relevant work related to criminal, civil and miscellaneous cases entrusted to him by the state government.

Award for rail factory
: The Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, has received the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award. This is for the third time that the RCF has been bestowed upon this coveted prize in the field of environment management. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram presented the award to KK Saxena, General Manager, RCF, at the 13th World Congress on Environment Management held in New Delhi recently.

Police scales new heights
: The six-member team of the Punjab Police after scaling Africa’s highest mountain Mt Kali Mangro in Tanzania (Africa), returned to India on Tuesday. The team was led by SSP Preetpaul Singh Virk. The Punjab Police Adventure Sports Club had organised the trip. SSP Virk said the team started its journey on June 15 and ended it on June 21. The Punjab Police had already conquered Mount Everest.

Close liquor shop: Residents of Sangha village in a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Satwant Singh Johal here demanded for the immediate closing of the illegal liquor shop opened in the village. The residents, led by Kashmir Singh Sangha, president of the All-India Sikh Students Federation (Sangha), in the memorandum to the DC expressed great anguish over the opening of the illegal liquor shop in village. Residents warned that in case the shop was not closed they would be forced to agitate in a peaceful way.

One arrested  with rifle: The Patti police arrested one Dalbir Singh, a resident of Kairon village, and recovered a .12 bore double barrel short rifle from his possession. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms act has been registered.

Cheques given to women: Ten women were given cheques for Rs 1,000 each under the Mata Kaushalya Kalyan Yojana at a function organised by the Health Department here on Saturday. The yojana has been started by the state government to promote delivery in government-run health centres.

Charges framed against Gulati:
The District and Sessions Judge has framed charges against Rajesh Gulati who kept parts of his wife’s body in a deep freezer at his residence. The software engineer had allegedly murdered his wife Anupama on the eve of Dasehra on October 17 last year by hitting her on the head with a heavy iron object.

Maidani Kranti Dal: A delegation, led by the chairperson of the Maidani Kranti Dal, met Governor Margaret Alva at Raj Bhawan here on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to her. They have alleged a discriminatory attitude of the government against peoples from the plain areas and the minorities. The memorandum has requested the Governor to recommend to the President action against the state government.

Sentenced: The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Haridwar, has sentenced Jagdish, an inhabitant of Laldhang in Haridwar to three years imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine for smuggling ivory. Jagdish was nabbed in the Rajaji National Park on March 3, 2007. Tusks weighing 25 kg were confiscated from his possession. Uttarakhand chapter of Wildife Protection Society of India has welcomed the court verdict.

8 injured: Eight persons were injured when a truck and a roadways bus collided at Rishikesh here on Monday. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. — TNS

Order to stop quarrying in Champawat:
The Champawat administration has issued an order stopping all quarrying activities with immediate effect. The order was issued by District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Pandey on Tuesday. Quarrying has been stopped as a precautionary measure against the chances of flooding and other accidents during the rains. Those given permission for quarrying have been asked to submit their relevant papers at the District Collectorate. He has warned that anyone found carrying out quarrying activities illegally would face legal action.

Firefighting equipment to be installed in schools: Officials of the Education Department, Udham Singh Nagar, have decided to install firefighting equipment in all schools of the district. The installation of fire extinguishers and other such equipment would start from the next academic session. It is learnt that instructions have been given up to the block level to ensure that all government schools are equipped to deal with any incident of an outbreak of fire. The authorities at various educational institutions have been warned that any delay in the installation of firefighting equipment would draw stringent action against them. This exercise is to be carried out in accordance with a Supreme Court directive.

Printing of fake currency: 4 arrested at Jaspur: Four persons have been arrested in Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar for their alleged involvement in the printing of fake currency. The arrested have been identified as Wajid of Moradabad, Gaffar of Haldwani, Nawab and Mohammad Rafi, both of Mahuvadabra near Jaspur. The police said at the time of their arrest, Rs 60,000 in fake currency was in their possession. The police also recovered a passport and an identification letter from Wajid that suggest that he has links to a similar racket in West Bengal. Further investigations are on.

Demonstration staged over erratic power supply: Residents of various localities in Rudrapur are agitated over an erratic power supply. Irked over unscheduled power cuts, they have threatened to take to the streets if the matter was not resolved immediately. A large number of people led by the representatives of the Congress held a demonstration outside the office of the DGM of the Power Department on Monday. The protesters were mostly residents of Indira Colony.

Registration of domestic animals ordered
: The district administration in Udham Singh Nagar
has ordered the compulsory registration of every domestic animal. District Magistrate BVRC Purshottam has also ordered the officials to carry out the verification of meat vendors and a survey of all stray animals within the district over the next 15 days. These orders were given at a meeting of the district-level Committee on Prevention of Cruelty To Animals. Purshottam asked Chief Veterinary Officer KK Joshi to ensure that unregistered stray cattle were shifted to cattle pounds. At the same time SSP Ajay Rautela has been instructed to check trafficking in cattle.
