Jalandhar, June 7
Entrepreneurs blinked first in the standoff between the industry and administration in which the former had alleged that they were being targeted in the guise of raids to check pollution levels in their units.

The meeting of both the parties was held at the Circuit House here this evening in which representatives of various sectors participated.

Besides the issue of raids, the incident in which a verbal duel ensued between both the parties a few days ago was also discussed.

At the outset, Divisional Commissioner SR Ladhar made it clear that pollution had to be tackled with a firm hand and polluting units had to fall in line or face action. However, he assured that a representative committee would be constituted soon to draw a time-bound roadmap for meeting all the pollution guidelines in the coming months.

Till such a time, raids on polluting units that were working in tandem with the committee would be suspended. The motive is to bring everyone on board so that even the problems of those who are unable to follow norms due to space or monetary constraints were also redressed, he added.

He also appealed them to submit proposals concerning their industry that could be forwarded to the government for necessary action.

However, the industrialists would be keeping their date with the CM in Chandigarh tomorrow.
