The local police has registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against Bhupinder Singh, resident of Kulam Road here, for committing a fraud in the sale deed of his 15-marla house, situated at Kulam Road, on a complaint lodged by Pran Nath.

He filed a civil suit against him for getting the sale deed executed. Meanwhile, it came to light that Bhupinder Singh had not only received earnest money from another person against the same property earlier, but also kept the original sale deed as guarantee with the local branch of Canara Bank for taking a loan.

As the loan was not repaid, the bank authorities affixed a notice on the wall of the house in November, 2009. The Economic Wing of the police conducted an inquiry and submitted its report to the SSP, Narinder Bhargav, who directed the SHO, city police station, to register a case. — OC

Mismanaged show by BJYM
Marathon turns out to be ‘torture’ for kids

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, May 29
It was torturous experience for the children who turned up to take part in a marathon organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) this morning.

The event, more of a publicity stunt but for a cause, made the children wait for over two hours under extreme the scorching sun. The children were called in at 6.30 am, whereas the meet commenced at about 8.30 am from Kichlu Chowk to SSSS Chowk, a stretch of about 2 km.

The marathon was a competitive run wherein children of all age groups from the school-level to university-level were put to compete against each other for the prizes Rs 5,100, Rs 3,100 and Rs 2,100 for the top three positions. There was a scant arrangement for water, refreshments or medical aid for the participants, which the children and parents complained about.

To make the things worst, someone from the organisers’ side blew the whistle mischievously, and misdirected the children, resulting in a stampede-like situation on the injury prone road track.

Rahul Maheshwari, the organiser, when asked about these lapses admitted that some notorious persons tried to disgrace the occasion by adopting such mischievous acts.

“The motive behind organising the meet was to raise voice against corruption and inflation. I had tried my level best to make the event successful, but some lapses might have remained, which would be well taken care of in future,” he said.
