Amritsar, May 23
Representatives of Art of Living Foundation, led by Dr Navjot Sidhu, wife of Member Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu, today protested against the alleged proposal of municipal corporation regarding chopping off about 40 trees at Sakatari Bagh on pretext of development and installing a musical fountain there.

Ironically, the foundation stone for the development project of the park was laid by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in presence of BJP MP and name of the park was changed on the name of late Raminder Singh Bularia, former MLA and father of present SAD MLA Inderbir Singh Bularia.

Dr Sidhu, also the chairperson of Art of Living Foundation, Punjab, along with other activists raised slogans against the MC and reiterated that they would not allow cutting of trees only to install a musical fountain in the park.

She said the foundation would submit a memorandum to MC Commissioner, Mayor and Forest Department to review this decision.

She said the residents of the city and the members of various NGOs were not averse to the installation of the foundations but appealed that an alternate place may be marked for the musical fountains.

“As the city has little green cover left, any such plan should be assessed before bringing it into practice,” she said.
