Girls excel yet again, bag 3 of 4 top positions

The girls have once again outshone boys at the national level and it is true for the city as well where they gave the boys a tough fight to bag three of the top four positions. While they have made their schools and parents proud, the new-age toppers are not bookworms, but is the “smart study” brigade.

Fewer make it to 90% list
Chandigarh May 23
Contrary to last year’s result where 400-odd students hit the magic number of 90 in the Class XII board exam, the number has gone down to almost half with only 200 students making it to the “A-list”. The worst hit is the science stream.

Shivalik school result withheld

While it was a day of excitement or disappointment for over 8,000 city students, 182 students of Shiwalik Public School, Sector 41, were left curious and anxious as there result was not declared today.

Govt schools a showstopper

If one has to sum up the results of government schools then Government Senior Secondary School, Khuda Lahora, is surely the showstopper. The school, which was criticised for registering an all-time low pass percentage of about 35 per cent last year and being amongst the bottom five, has won laurels by topping in the non-model category with an overall pass percentage of about 92 per cent.

Swanky classrooms, exorbitant fee and tall claims of ‘quality’ education may not be the right recipe for success as continuing their last year’s winning streak, government schools have once again outdone their private counterparts in the CBSE Class XII results declared today.

Supervisor’s son does him proud

His father is a small-time supervisor at Sikhya School, Sector 46. His household income is meagre but surely not his dreams. Pradeep Kumar has not only left his school GMSSS, Sector 16, but even his father proud by securing 91 per cent marks in arts stream.

Known for nurturing talent of hundreds of unfortunate students, Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya has left its mark yet again. Manisha, who secured 76 per cent marks in the science stream, lost her parents years ago.

Non-medical topper aspires to be IAS

Girls have once again outshined boys in the Class XII CBSE results declared today. In the non-medical stream, Akriti Chadda of Gian Jyoti Public School has topped the town by scoring 92.8 per cent marks. A refined orator and winning various awards in dancing, Akriti is aspiring to become an IAS officer and serve society.

NCB plan to destroy drugs comes unstuck
Chandigarh, May 23
A move by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to destroy 4,000 kilos of contraband poppy husk worth crores of rupees at JP Associate’s solid waste disposal plant in Dhanas on Monday failed to materialise after officials of the UT Pollution Control Board (PCB) termed the method of disposal as “environmentally hazardous” on the grounds that the plant was not equipped to conduct such an exercise.

Seva centres for development of villages in Haryana

The Panjab University authorities today decided to conduct both manual and electronic checking of answersheets for the D-series biology paper of the common entrance test (CET) held yesterday in which 10 questions were repeated due to erroneous printing.

Technical glitch hits compilation

The compilation of results in several city schools was delayed by a few hours due to a technical glitch in the download server. A majority of schools were able to download the complete results, on the job since 10 am, only by 1:30 pm.

Girls outshine boys in Patiala
Patiala, May 23
Girls once again outshone boys in the class XII result of the CBSE that was declared this morning. In DAV School, a total of 185 students appeared in the exam. The pass percentage of the school is 97.85 per cent. In commerce stream, Ojassvi Rishi (93.3%), Anupreet Tiwana (88.2%) and Ramneet Singh were first, second and third, respectively.

Ropar schools come out with flying colours
Ropar, May 23
Schools at Ropar have come out with flying colours in the CBSE results declared today. Overall result of Shiwalik Public School, Ropar, is 96 per cent. In non-medical stream Vishakha stood first with 91.2 per cent, Jaswinder Kaur bagged second position with 89 per cent while Urmila Chakraborty scored 88.4 per cent to secure third position in the school.

Various public schools of Ambala performed well in class XII examination of the CBSE, result of which was declared today. Rajeev, a student of Police DAV Public School, got 96 per cent in science stream while Pankaj Joshi bagged 92%. Shradha stood third with 91.6% Principal Vikas Kohli said all the students who appeared in the examination achieved success.

94 donate blood at DAV school

To commemorate 125th year of DAV Movement today, Arya Yuva Samaj of DAV Public School, Bhupindra Road, Patiala, in collaboration with the department of transfusion medicine, PGI, Chandigarh, today organised second blood donation camp on its premises. This camp got overwhelming response. About 94 parents and teachers donated blood.

3 students hurt in group clash
Dera Bassi, May 23
Three students were injured in a group clash near Malkpur village today. Twelve assailants armed with sharp edged weapons attacked the other group of students this afternoon. The injured students alleged that the assailants also fired three air shots. As per reports the clash took place due to old enmity.

HC issues contempt notice to 14 lawyers

Taking cognizance of a report submitted by the Registrar (Vigilance) in the district courts violence case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued a notice to 14 district court advocates, asking them to show cause why criminal contempt of court proceedings not be initiated against them.

High Court stays demolition of Chandigarh Club

Issuing notice of motion to UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas and Assistant Estate Officer Rahul Gupta on a petition alleging contempt of court filed by the Chandigarh Club, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed demolition till the next date of hearing. Justice Rajive Bhalla also fixed May 30 as the date for taking up the case.

Builder penalised for harassing allottee

The Mohali District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has levied a penalty of Rs 63,000 on the promoters of Janta Land Promoters Ltd (JLPL) for harassing an allottee of an apartment in Regency Heights, Sector 90, here on account of not providing the basic amenities as promised at the time of allotment.

Bail to seven more in Bataud violence case
Panchkula, May 23
The local court today granted bail to seven persons who were arrested on May 8 in connection with the caste violence that took place in Batoud village on March 17. Earlier, the court had granted bail to eight other accused.
