Kalanaur Firing
Rohtak, May 23 The accused include a former MLA from Meham, Balbir Singh, alias Bali Pehalwan, who hails from Mokhra village. Traffic was disrupted for over over two hours and the road blockade was lifted after the intervention of senior officials. The sarpanch of Basana village, Sita Ram Rathi, who is the complainant in the murder case, alleged that the police was taking the matter lightly as a former MLA was involved in the firing incident. He said the former MLA was adopting pressure tactics to evade arrest, leading to severe resentment among the family members of the victim who was killed in the firing. The former MLA has been “holed up” in his native Mokhra village for the past 18 days and is evading arrest. Supporters of the former MLA have charged the police with framing him in a false murder case. The police is avoiding to visit the village for “fear”of a violent clash as the supporters of Bali Pehalwan are armed and have dared the police to arrest him, said a police official. He added that nine persons had already surrendered and the police was waiting for the former MLA to surrender. Supporters of the victim have alleged that the police has failed to arrest the former MLA despite having information about his presence in Mokhra village. The sarpanch said, “It is shocking that the accused is being protected by his supporters in violation of the law of the land and the authorities are acting like a mute spectator.” Bali was allegedly among the assailants who opened fire on the sarpanch and his relative Vishnu, who died in the firing. SSP Satish Balan said the police had asked the former MLA to join investigation. He said efforts were on to arrest the accused. Meanwhile, the situation continues to remain tense in Mokhra village where the residents providing protection to the former MLA have refused to budge. |
