Maintain records, telcos told
Sirsa, October 31 After getting a police report in this regard that these connections could be used for antinational activities, especially considering the fact that the city is home to an Air Force military base, the district magistrate today made it mandatory for all mobile companies and mobile shop owners to submit their records every month to the police for verification. District magistrate V. Umashankar said the order had been issued under Section 144 of the CrPC and those found guilty of violation of the order would be prosecuted. The SP wrote to the district magistrate that the sale and purchase of old and stolen mobile handsets continued without maintaining proper records of customers. Mobile companies were providing connections without obtaining authentic residential proof, photograph and without proper verification of customers. These could be misused, the SP had said. The magistrate has directed all mobile companies to obtain proper proof and maintained records of customers. The companies have been directed to send their monthly report in this regard to the SP. Besides, shop owners dealing with the sale, purchase and repair of old mobiles have been directed to maintain records of transaction, repairs and details of customers.
