Rao Ajit Singh joins INLD
Rewari, October 27 Rao Ajit singh (52) is the younger brother of union minister of state for defence production Rao Inderjit Singh and a son of former union minister Rao Birender Singh. The alliance convention was held at the Rampura House here, which was the royal mansion and power-seat of Rao Tula Ram, a hero of 1857 revolt. Welcoming Rao Ajit Singh and his supporters into the party fold, INLD supremo and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala mentioned the deep-rooted ties between his late father Ch Devi Lal and Ajit Singh’s father Rao Birender Singh and asserted that recurrence of the same relationship between him and Rao Ajit Singh would surely change the fortunes of the INLD in the state, particularly the Ahirwal region. An elated Chautala went on to say that a rejuvenated INLD would now be able to wipe out the Congress. He also added that the time was not far when public cries of “down with the Congress” and “hail the advent of the INLD” would start reverberating in the state. Making mention of the traditional bonds between Jats and Ahirs, he also called upon the members of the two communities to learn to vote in unison to make the INLD supreme in Haryana. Referring to the on-going confrontation between the Congress and the Left parties over the nuclear deal, Chautala lamented that the “weakened Prime Minister had brought disgrace and ignominy to the entire nation”. He said it was owing to the inept handling of the affairs of the country by the Prime Minister that our external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee had to face humiliation at the hands of his Russian counterpart during his recent visit to Russia. Asserting that the tactical device being pursued by the Congress and the Leftists to ward off the decline of the UPA government would never be a paying proposition, he predicted that mid-term poll was imminent, which could take place before May 2008. Earlier, expressing happiness on his joining the INLD, Rao Ajit Singh gave a firm assurance that he and his men would extend their unstinted support to Chautala and would spare no pains to make the INLD a grand success in the state. |
No rapprochement with Cong: Bhajan
Hisar, October 27 This is the first time since the father-son duo grew disenchanted with the Congress following Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s elevation as Chief Minister that Bhajan Lal made such a statement about his relations with the Congress and its leadership. Earlier, he had been making very guarded remarks about the issue. Bhajan Lal said the people of Haryana should not believe in any false and misleading propaganda by the Congress regarding moves for any sort of compromise. He said they had taken the decision to fight for the betterment of the people and their current campaign was also in public interest. Interestingly, Bhajan Lal used the expression ‘Sonia Congress’ every time he referred to the Congress. Till now, he used the expression, Congress, for the party, which he has not quit formally. This gave rise to the speculation that the duo might be contemplating to use the word Congress in some way while christening their proposed party. Bhajan Lal was addressing a meeting of observers for the proposed December 2 Rohtak rally. He said he and his supporters had given their blessings to Kuldeep Bishnoi. |
Ex-sarpanch shot dead in Jhajjar
Jhajjar, October 27 Agitated over the incident, a large number of villagers, including women, armed with lathis and sharp-edged weapons set the police post on fire and blocked all roads. They also beat up two policemen, including sub-inspector Ramphal Singh. The police fled from the spot and after four hours returned with IG Sharad Kumar. According to information, assailants, who reportedly came in two cars and motorcycle, killed Raj Singh, a former sarpanch. Karan Singh, brother of the deceased, said the youths on motorcycle, who were wearing helmets to hide their identities, called his brother out of the shop. Raj Singh died on the spot after the persons sitting in the car fired at him. In view of the brewing tension, additional police force was called in from Rohtak and Jhajjar towns. The villagers complained to senior officials that despite repeated occurrence of crimes, the police had failed to arrest even a single accused. The IG, however, assured the villagers that all accused would be arrested soon. This is the third murder within a month in the village. Karanil Singh was shot dead in a similar manner on October 18. Earlier, on September 26, a youth, Satyawan was shot dead and three of his accomplices were injured seriously when a group of assailants fired bullets on them by barging into their houses. The bloody violence is reportedly related to village panchayat elections, when Joginder Singh became the sarpanch. He, however, nursed a grudge against Karnail Singh, who had opposed him during the elections. Their rivalry, however, picked up when Joginder shot at Karnail’s son Rinku in December 2005. The enmity turned bloody when some persons, reportedly including Karnail Singh and his son, shot dead Joginder and his accomplice Rakesh on June 5. None of the accused in these incidents had been arrested so far. The villagers, however, said the former had no allegiance with any of the rival groups but one of the groups might have identified him with the rivals and thus decided to
eliminate him. |
