Misbehaviour with girl student to invite FIR

Chandigarh, September 13
Haryana education minister Mange Ram Gupta has expressed concern over growing incidents of misbehaviour by teachers and staff with girl students. Any incident that comes to light will invite an FIR against those found to be involved in undesirable behaviour.

Gupta has made it clear that the head of the school will also be held directly responsible for any incidents that come to light. All heads of schools were expected to take steps that help in minimising these incidents.

He made these observations after reviewing the working and schemes of the education department with the commissioner and secretary, education, and all directors of the education department here today.

The Haryana education department had taken a decision around this time last year to scan all schools in the state to identify male teachers that the department said could be “potential trouble makers”.

Several stringent measures were announced to boost the morale of girl students and their parents and to ensure that the Hisar incident - where a student was molested - was not repeated.

A circular to all principals and headmasters of various government and private educations institutions was sent out last year in which they were told directly as well as through district education officers (DEOs) to keep a strict vigil on the ‘suspicious’ activities of the male staff and anything ‘abnormal’ should be reported immediately.

The education minister has expressed dissatisfaction at the measures taken and has issued a strict warning to “undesirable elements” in schools.

The minister has stressed the need for revamping the education system in the state in the light of the fast-changing scenario globally and has directed the officers of the education department to chalk out a time-bound programme for imparting qualitative education.

At the meeting, the minister stressed the need for imparting education, especially to girls in rural areas. He said the girl child was still discriminated against by parents in rural areas. On the other hand, two families could be educated by giving the education to a girl.

The education minister took exception to absenteeism by teachers and stressed the need for enforcing discipline strictly in schools.

He said strict action would also be taken against teachers who visited Chandigarh for their transfers and postings without prior permission.

He directed all directors of the education department to ensure that all grievances of teachers were disposed of at the district level.

Ahulana Dherka (Sonepat), September 13
State finance minister Birender Singh has urged ex-MP Pandit Chiranji Lal and other veteran politicians of the state to come on a single platform to weed out the prevalent caste system from the society, which had done enough damage.

Panchayat of Ahulana Dherka village today organised the 85th birth anniversary function of Chiranji Lal at a local school complex, in which several MLAs and state ministers, including the Chief Minister, participated.

Father of the newly elected working president of the state Congress Kuldeep Sharma, Chiranji Lal is the only MP elected four times from Haryana.

Showing gratitude to the villagers, Lal gave a cheque of Rs 1 lakh for the village school.

The finance minister said there was a strong need to have leaders to the stature of Chiranji Lal in the present political scenario.

He said it was indeed a matter of worry that several politicians, including those from the Congress, were indulged in caste politics.

Terming it shameful, he said certain self-centred politicians had coined the terminology of jat and non-jat in the state, which was causing unrest among the society.

The CM ensured the villagers to provide sufficient water for the villages located at the tail end in the area of Binjhol canal. He also promised to command an overall development of the village.

Ram Setu Protests
Agitation to be stepped up, warns VHP
Tribune News Service

Ambala, September 13
The activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad today strongly condemned yesterday’s lathi charge incident and stated that the agitation would be stepped up.

A meeting, which was held to assess the situation, was organised by VHP city president Ravinder Chadha. Among others, Deepak Raj, M.L. Gupta, Amar Nath Tiwari, Rajesh Sharma, Harish Kumar, Harish Ahuja, Surender Bindra and Vijay Jain were present.

Calling it a grave mistake on the part of the government to prevent a peaceful demonstration, Chadha said a country-wide awareness campaign was being launched from September 27 on the issue.

Former Ambala MP Ratan Lal Kataria said the UPA government must apologise to the nation for submitting an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that there is no historical evidence to prove the existence of Lord Rama. He said the entire issue had enraged the Hindu community.

Stating that whenever the image of the Congress-led UPA government was dented, the government turned towards Sonia Gandhi, the former MP demanded stern action against union law minister Hansraj Bharadwaj over the matter.

Kataria said damaging Ram Setu would have grave consequences, claiming that chances of a tsunami would increase, sea life would be affected and the thorium deposits would be destroyed.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the district Congress committee was held at Congress Bhavan in which the demonstrations by BJP and its associate groups was criticised. District spokesman Naib Singh Saini said the saffron party had always tried to encash upon the religious sentiments of the people and the common people had paid a heavy price for it.

He said the Congress believed that all religions are equal. He said the BJP should have held a dialogue on this matter instead of blocking traffic, which put thousands of commuters to inconvenience.
