IAF official, wife die in Delhi blasts

This Divali had something horrible for them in store. The family of four including Sergeant Dilbag Singh, an Air Force employee, hailing from Sasroli village of the district, his wife Suman and two pretty kids, were also among scores of victims of terror when bombs exploded in the Sarojini Nagar area of Delhi on Saturday.

Gang of auto thieves busted
Sonepat, October 31
With the arrest of four armed youths, the special police staff has busted a gang of auto thieves operating in this district for the past few months. Superintendent of Police Rajinder Singh told media persons here today that the arrested youths were identified as Mohan Lal, alias Monu, of Lal Darwaza, Amit alias Veeru Punjabi, Raju of Dhobiwara and Deepak of Sonepat.

Contractor electrocuted to death
Yamunanagar, October 31
A contractor at a plywood-manufacturing unit was electrocuted, while two others died in different road accidents here in the past 24-hours. Vikas Kumar, (23), who was working with B Plywood factory at Aurangabad village here came in contact with a live wire last afternoon.

Suspended cops reinstated
Hisar, October 31
The festival of lights today brought cheer to the families of as many as 12 police personnel of the district who were under suspension for some minor offences.

Seminar on mental health awareness
Ambala, October 31
A three-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on “Mental health awareness: A yogic perspective” concluded at the Sohan Lal DAV College of Education today. Participants at the seminar have made several recommendations.

Justice Iqbal Singh to head tribunal
Chandigarh, October 31
Justice Iqbal Singh, a retired Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed chairman of the tribunal constituted under the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act, a notification issued by the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of the Town and Country Planning Department of Haryana said today.

This Divali had something horrible for them in store. The family of four including Sergeant Dilbag Singh, an Air Force employee, hailing from Sasroli village of the district, his wife Suman and two pretty kids, were also among scores of victims of terror when bombs exploded in the Sarojini Nagar area of Delhi on Saturday.

Bodies of the couple were consigned to flames in their native village this evening while of two children, seven-year-old Priyanka and three-and -a-half year Nikhil were still missing. Though two bodies of children were recovered from the spot, another family claimed them to be their kids and their identification could be ascertained after the DNA test.

The entire village seems to be in mourning mode as the bodies were taken off from the special Defence vehicle in their ancestral village here. A large number of people from Sasroli and other neighbouring villages attended the funeral in which Squadron Leader RK Singh and naib tehsildar Rothan Lal paid tributes on behalf of the Air Force and the district administration respectively.

The Air Force personnel, who accompanied the bodies said that deceased Dilbag Singh was staying in Naraina area of Delhi in rented accommodation with his family. He was posted in the capital. They added that the couple with their children had gone to Sarojini Nagar market on the fateful day for shopping for Divali as well as for the marriage of Suman’s brother. Another Air Force jawan who also injured in the blast, later identified bodies of the couple.

Eighty-year-old mother of the jawan was inconsolable as she lost her two grandchildren along with his son and daughter in law. Family members of the deceased couple in the village said that Dilbag Singh son of Shishram joined Air Force 12 years ago. The deceased was one of his nine brothers and his father had expired a couple of years ago. The family of the deceased couple now waits for two kids. Even though they were also feared to be dead in the attack as the family was standing just near the spot of the blast, the family still hopes a miracle to happen. The family now waits for result of the DNA test.

Gang of auto thieves busted

With the arrest of four armed youths, the special police staff has busted a gang of auto thieves operating in this district for the past few months. Superintendent of Police Rajinder Singh told media persons here today that the arrested youths were identified as Mohan Lal, alias Monu, of Lal Darwaza, Amit alias Veeru Punjabi, Raju of Dhobiwara and Deepak of Sonepat.

The police, he said, also recovered two loaded pistols and other weapons, besides 27 stolen motor cycles worth about Rs 10 lakh from their possession. He disclosed that the police had so far solved as many as 22 cases of auto-theft committed by members of this gang.

Giving the details of the arrests, the SP said the in charge of the special police, Mr Kanwal Singh along with his subordinates was on patrol duty on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road last night when information about the whereabouts of these youths was received. The police swung into action and conducted a raid on the road leading to Kabirpur village. On seeing the police culprits tried to escape but they were overpowered.

The SP said the culprits, during the course of interrogation, told the police that they had been engaged in stealing motor cycles in and around Sonepat city and sold them after preparing fake registration numbers.

The police has registered cases under various sections of the IPC against them.

Contractor electrocuted to death

Yamunanagar, October 31
A contractor at a plywood-manufacturing unit was electrocuted, while two others died in different road accidents here in the past 24-hours. Vikas Kumar, (23), who was working with B Plywood factory at Aurangabad village here came in contact with a live wire last afternoon. He was taken to a private hospital here from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital.

However, he died on the way to the Civil Hospital. He hailed from West Bengal and was working at the factory for the past four years.

The police has initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrP.C.

Pawan Kumar, (28), of Muzafarnagar, Uttar Pardesh, died after the truck he was driving collided with another truck near Kail village on Jagadhri- Ambala national highway.

Driver of the other truck, Surinder Singh, also sustained serious injuries in the accident. Surinder Singh has been booked by the police.

In another road accident, Mam Chand (50) of Balachaur village (Jagadhri) died when the tractor-trailer he was driving turned turtle near Kharwan village in Jagadhri last night. Passersby discovered his body in this morning.

Suspended cops reinstated

The festival of lights today brought cheer to the families of as many as 12 police personnel of the district who were under suspension for some minor offences. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr Arshinder Singh Chawla, reinstated the suspended policemen after they personally appeared before their senior officials and pledged not to repeat their mistakes.

On being contacted, Mr Chawla confirmed their reinstatement, adding that only those officials who were involved in some minor offences had been reinstated. He maintained that the departmental inquiries against the personnel would continue.

Seminar on mental health awareness

A three-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on “Mental health awareness: A yogic perspective” concluded at the Sohan Lal DAV College of Education today. Participants at the seminar have made several recommendations. They have recommended that for imparting basic information about ancient Indian culture, universal ethical values should be imparted to teacher educators, teacher trainees and students in higher education and it needs to be accepted as integral part of curriculum.

The salient features of yoga practiced in Indian traditions for better living should be identified and form a compulsory component of personality development and health education. In order to form positive mental health and protect adolescents at school level, the existing programmes of imparting education should be re-designed while incorporating yogic inputs based on cultural and rational approach.

The participants suggested that colleges of teacher education should play a leading role in empowering different groups, especially parents to impart required education to children at developmental stage. Colleges of teacher education should undertake need-based innovative developmental projects related to positive mental health awareness in the local community.
