New Delhi, September 18 The Crime Branch of Delhi Police got a tip-off information about the sleaze trade. A decoy customer was then sent to the pimp who fixed the deal for Rs 80,000 for one girl for a night. As token money, Rs 40,000 was paid in advance as the pimp produced the girl. Subsequently, the police party raided the spot and arrested all the four girls and the pimp. During investigation, it was revealed that two girls belonged to Delhi while two hailed from Mumbai. “The Mumbai girls are postgraduate and are well-known ramp models. They speak English fluently. They are quite attractive and get a high price,” said a senior police official. Police said that all the girls were arrested first time and are of the age group between 20 and 24 years. After receiving the advance, the Mumbai girls were informed and they would stay in five-star hotels. They put up here for a couple of days and then return thereafter. Armyman’s body found in Paharganj hotel
New Delhi, September 18
Both later had breakfast at 8 am. At 11 am, his friend left the hotel along with a briefcase, which he said contained defence-related papers and were to be taken to the ‘Sena Bhawan’, according to hotel employees. While leaving, he had instructed the man at the reception that he would be returning late and that he along with his friend should be woken early next morning at 6.30 as they had to catch a train. This morning, when the room was knocked and no reply was received, the staff opened the room with the second key and found the blood-stained body. His neck had been slashed and his face bore cut marks. A resident of Patna, the man had arrived from Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir as per the hotel record. Police officials could not be reached for comments. |
Expedite probe into fictitious cases, police ordered
New Delhi, September 18 “The matter is grave and requires urgent and immediate attention. The investigation cannot be conducted at a snail’s pace and should be expedited to bring out the truth,” Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Goel, who is hearing a bunch of such complaints, said in a direction to the DCP (North). The court’s intervention came when the counsel for the complainant Gaganpreet Singh submitted that despite the gravity of the offence, the police were not taking interest to bring the culprits to book or curb their activities. Three FIRs have been registered at Subzi Mandi police station in North Delhi against main accused V K Diwan and 13 others in this connection in the past five months even as the number of complaints is rising. No arrests have been made. The complainants, mostly tenants of Diwan and other accused in houses and shops leased out by them, allege that they prepare documents like promissory notes, rent deeds and undertakings to pay huge amount as rent arrears in their name, using forged signatures and fake seals of notaries. The tenants are then blackmailed for money, saying if the money is not paid, they would file civil and criminal cases of cheating against them using these documents. Victims Gurdeep Singh, Sandeep Dewan and Rajesh Kumar, facing trial in such alleged fictitious cases, said while Diwan is the complainant, the other accused form the same set of witnesses who depose in his favour in all the cases. “The expeditious investigation is in the interest of justice for the complainant and a number of other litigants so that no more persons are made victim of the forged document,” the Magistrate said. “It will also be in the interest of the accused because if they are innocent, a sword in the garb of investigations should not be hanging over their head and they should not for ever remain in fear of arrest,” the court said. Diwan and his accomplices—Ravinder Kumar, Surinder Kumar, R P Ravi, Lala Ram, Om Prakash, Tulsi Ram, Lakhman Dass, Amar Nath, V K Chopra, R Prakash, P S Sharma, Inder Grover and R S Rawal—have been booked under Sections 468 (forgery for cheating), 472 (using a forged document as genuine one) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).). The court had earlier directed the authorities in the Delhi Secretariat to compare in the Notaries Register the signatures and seals of the notaries with the forged ones allegedly used by the accused. The counsel told the court that the “racket was thriving in the courts despite earlier complaints to Subzi Mandi Station House Officer and DCP (Anti-Forgery section) and many of the affected persons were not coming forward as they were being threatened by the accused”. The notaries whose forged seals were used for filing cases have submitted affidavits in the court, saying “the documents were never executed before them” and that parties “never approached them for attestation”. |
HC stays demolition of properties on NH-8
New Delhi, September 18 The interim order on Friday came from Justice Praddeep Nandrajog on a petition by Delhi Highway Petroleum Dealers Association seeking to restrain the DDA, MCD and NHAI from demolition their properties situated on NH-8 connecting Delhi-Gurgaon. The court issued notices to the NHAI, MCD and DA asking the three agencies to file their replies to the petition. In the petition filed through counsel Sanat Kumar, the Association requested the court to direct the respondents to produce guidelines, regulations and notifications indicating the road width of NH-8 passing through Delhi and also indicate the area where no construction was permissible. Kumar said as per Delhi Master Plan, the road width of NH-8 passing through national capital was 60 meter (30 meter each side) and extending the road beyond that was possible only after obtaining the approval from authorities concerned. Petitioner alleged that DDA and MCD officials were threatening to demolish their properties situated on NH-8 to widen the road up to 90 meter. |
Traders protest against Haroon Yusuf
New Delhi, September 18 The Power Minister had given clean chit to the discoms that metres are running normal after testing only a few metres. The traders association said that attitude of the Power Minister showed that instead of Delhiites, he represented discoms. This attitude will not be tolerated. The Association has threatened to join the ongoing agitation of Resident Welfare Association (RWA). Secretary General of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Mr Parveen Khandelwal termed the statement of Mr Yusuf as baseless and funny and said that an estimated about nine lakhs electronic metres are installed in Delhi whereas only 256 metres have been tested and the minister is putting all blame on residents on technical grounds which cannot be justified under any circumstances. Mr Khandelwal expressed surprise how the minister said that electronic metres were running normal. The traders association demanded that to make the testing system transparent, a committee under the chairmanship of a retired High Court justice be constituted which should include representative of discoms, technical people, trade and RWAs’ representatives. It has also to be decided what standard and parameters will be laid down to test the metres. |

Metro opens the door
to film-makers
New Delhi, September 18 However, the metro premises will only be available to film-makers in such a way that its services are not interfered with and passengers not troubled at all, DMRC Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal said. But using the world-class premises of the Delhi metro for shooting will not come cheap to film and commercial advertisement producers. They will have to shell out Rs 1 lakh per hour. The DMRC will also be offering trains on special charges, though strictly off the peak hours. In addition, producers will also have to provide a bank guarantee and insurance coverage to the property so that any damage during a shoot is taken care of, well in advance. As per Mr Dayal, the DMRC is exploring additional avenues of generating revenues as passenger fare, which is the main source of its earning. “Crores and crores have been spent on developing the metro infrastructure and there have to be other avenues to generate sufficient revenues to make the organisation self-sustaining and maintain the same world-class level in the times to come,” he said. At present, the DMRC is earning a good amount from offering consultancy services and has also decided to create a special wing for it. The DMRC is providing consultancy to several Indian and cities in foreign countries, interested in replicating the Delhi metro’s model. Property development is another way that the DMRC is trying to make itself financially self-sufficient. Incidentally, “Bewafaa”, a movie starring Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, was the first Hindi film to be shot on a Delhi metro platform in Kashmere Gate about a year back. Besides, three commercials, including one of Hero Honda, have also been shot on its premises. About a fortnight back, it received another proposal, though nothing has been finalised yet. |

Retrospective
of Mondal’s oeuvre
