Chhapar Mela — white elephant for govt
Mandi Ahmedgarh, September 18
Chhapar Mela, a famous rural fair of North India, has proven to be a white elephant for the state government. Fast losing its religious and cultural relevance, it has transformed into a political mega stage and a centre for making uncontrolled fun. Excluding the Government and the visitors, all others concerned are gainers here.
With an average attendance of a million visitors every year, the event has been a source of massive income for many, including the ‘partners’ in the temple and the owners of the land situated surrounding the Guga Mari.
The perusal of bank accounts of the individuals and the assets made by the families during the few past years indicate that each partner earned lakhs every year.
