Private firms to set up power plants in state
Chandigarh, August 27 An official spokesman said here yesterday that Tara Power Limited had already expressed interest in setting up a 1000-MW gas-based power plant at Jhajjar. In view of the prevailing coal shortage in the country, the government was of the view that in future only gas-based power generation projects should be set up. There was a proposal to set up 600 MW gas-based plants at Yamunanagar and Hisar, the land for which was already available with the Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL). The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) had also been requested to set up another 432 MW plant at Faridabad to generate the entire power for Haryana. He said an MoU had been signed with the Gas Authority of India (GAIL) for laying necessary gas transmission network for these projects. Gail had been asked to supply gas for 15 years. A 1050 MW gas-based plant would be set up at Faridabad during the 11th Plan period. He said the government had also approved the proposal to implement the Yamunanagar Thermal Power project of two units of 300 MW each through international bidding on turnkey basis. Earlier a letter of intent was issued to Reliance Energy to set up a project at Yamunanagar. Both projects would be completed in 27 and 30 months, respectively. The HPGCL was also exploring the possibility of setting up run-of-river or small hydel projects in joint venture with states like Himachal and Uttranchal. He said the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had laid the foundation stone of a 1065 MW gas-based power generation plant at village Mothuka in Faridabad district. It would be set up by the ABAN Loyld group. |

Dr Surender Kumar Verma, senior scientist at CICR who had been given the Rs 10 lakh ambitious project, said that the project would revolutionize the cotton scenario in the region. Once the exact technique is finalized to categorize through DNA fingerprinting by using the technique of molecular markers, the institute would develop a databank where the entire details, including the variety and parent seeds of any particular seed would be stored. On the impact the project that was scheduled to be completed and submit the research in the stipulated time by the year 2008, the expert said that it would put a check on the sale of the spurious seeds. Since hybrid cottonseeds are getting expensive a number of mischievous manufacturers are selling fake seeds. The project would also provide a shield to the universities and institutes who develop seeds but fear of unauthorized “copying” by the private companies. |
