New Delhi, March 19 Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths nabbed the accused near the Samaipur Badli area and seized the horns, which were protected under Wild Life (Protection) Act. During interrogation, the accused told the sleuths that he used to smuggle the horns in Sariska from selling them in Delhi. He also said that the horns have medicinal value and said the horns were shed themselves during the fight between the deers. Contrary to his statement, the sleuths found that the horns were cut with sharp-edged weapons for the purpose of smuggling.
Life term for abducting NRI businessman
A Delhi court today sentenced four people to life imprisonment for abducting an NRI businessman for ransom over four years ago. The Special CBI Judge, Mr Dinesh Dayal, also imposed a fine of Rs 14,000 each on Rakesh Saraha, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, Santosh Shankar Acharya, from Mumbai, Karik Subramaniam, from Faridabad, and Vipin Chander from Bijnour in Uttar Pradesh for abducting Thekkahald Siddique on March 11, 2001. Siddique, Managing Director of an Abu Dhabi-based company, was rescued from a house in Sarvapriya Vihar in Delhi on March 18, 2001, after a brief shootout in which three of the abductors were killed. While Virender Panth, Sanjay Khanna and Sunil Nathani were killed, Kartik and Vipin were arrested on the spot in a joint raid carried out by the CBI and the Special Cell. The other two accused were arrested later. According to CBI, the accused represented themselves as Hong Kong-based businessmen and asked the victim to meet them for some business deal when he came to India. On March 11, 2001, Saraha received Siddique at the airport here and took him to their hideout. The accused, thereafter, made several calls to the victim’s wife, Rahma Siddique, demanding one million dollars for his release. Rahma lodged a complaint from UAE through the embassy. |

Institutional plots go begging in Noida
Noida, March 19 This will result in the plots in old sectors remaining unsold while in new sectors, there will be no progress till development takes place there. This can affect the lease rent and transfer charges also. The Noida Authority had announced a scheme of institutional plots in sectors, 1, 24, 66, 19, 41, 42, 43, 48, 51, 53, 55, 56, 61. In old sectors, plots ranging from 715 sq mts to 20,000 sq mts were announced while in new sectors, plot sizes ranged from 1000 sq mt to 10 acres each. In old sectors, the rates of these plots have been kept at par with the rates of allotment of the residential plots. The allotment rate is kept at
Rs 3,700 per sq mt in new sectors. There are long queues for those seeking plots at the rate of Rs 3,700 for sq mt, but right now, there are no buyers for plots in new sectors. Under the circumstances, the price of a 1000 sq mt plot in Sector-61 is Rs 67.50 lakh while along the expressway plots of 2,000 sq mt will be available for Rs 74 lakh. According to sources, the rate for a 3,000 sq mt plot in Sector-19 will be Rs 11,200 per sq mt, which will come to Rs 3.36 crore with the annual lease rent of Rs 9 lakh. Against it in new sectors, 3000 sq mt plot will be available for Rs 1.11 crore. The investors feel that when the prime location plots are available at cheaper rates, what is the logic in buying land in old sectors. Educational institutions are set up to impart education, they are not for earning big profits. They also question the rationale of fixing such high rates of land in developed sectors. What will be the amount of development cess for plots being allotted at Rs 11,200 per sq mt, has also not been figured out yet allottees are demanding uniform rates for the allotment of plots and reducing the deposit amount from 30 per cent to 20 percent for getting possession. When OSD Dr Arun Singh, who appeared in agreement on this issue, asked the property cell in-charge, Jamil Ahmed for details, the latter accepted that the policy on fixing rates has been a big hurdle in getting suitable response for the allotment of plots in institutional sectors. |
HUDA setting its house in order
Gurgaon, March 19 The purpose of the camps would be to allow the allottees of HUDA or any resident facing a problem regarding infrastructure to meet the officers at one place. The administrator’s office has emphasised that the people will not face any ‘harassment’ at
the department’s headquarters here. According to many, the apparent human touch given to the functioning of HUDA comes in the wake of the new government sending back about 100 persons on deputation to their parent departments. In the past few years, the functioning of HUDA had come in for a lot of public criticism. The general opinion is that the HUDA officials harassed people for even routine works. The feeling is that apart from senior officers, even the personnel of the rank of junior engineers of the department lorded over people who met them regarding their grievances. The only ones who
were happy with the earlier style of functioning of HUDA were land mafia and realtors. |

Leadership, a mantra of success
Faridabad, March 19 This was stated by Mr Sampath Kumar, a motivational speaker while delivering his keynote address in the seminar titled ‘Leadership through team building’, organised by the Faridabad Small Industries Association (FSIA) here yesterday. Mr Kumar claimed that there was no shortage of manpower and talent in any field in the country, but what was important was how such energies were used in the overall benefit of any enterprise. He said the most important ingredient of success in any sector was the leadership. If a person at the helm of affairs was a true leader, no one could check the path to success. The attributes of leadership include transparency at work, respecting the views of others, a desire for constant learning, promoting team spirit, being ready for adapting to changes, working according to the environment and keeping away the personal interests against the corporate ones. He said the leader or the manager should have a fair knowledge about the things around him and should know how to use the potential and talent of the employees there. Stating that the ‘star’ industries were there not just by chance, but made rapid strides due to their ‘star’ leadership. Giving examples of industrialists like Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mr Lakshmi Mittal, Mr O.P.Jindal and groups like Hero Honda, TVS, Reliance and Sundaram, he said the various factors including ambition, inspiration, motivation and recognition of the hard work had contributed deeply towards the success achieved by the owners and management of these enterprises. The FSIA secretary, Mr Rajiv Chawla, said that there were several options available for the entrepreneurs here to make a mark in their fields, but he said what was needed was the proper awareness and a qualitative approach. He said the theory of ‘I am Mr Right’ was outdated and the entrepreneurs at present should broaden their thinking and accommodate others who deserve praise and motivation for their role and work. He said the FSIA was observing 2005 as the ‘Year of Global Reach’ and under this drive, the association had helped at least 80 of its members
to acquire the ISO certification. The Nainital Bank announced the launch of its credit card facility for the small-scale units in Faridabad district. |

Demand to celebrate Ramnaumi Mahotsav in Parliament
New Delhi, March 19 Bansal, said that if the British Government and their parliamentarians can organise Ram Janmaotsav in the House of Commons, then there is no reason for not celebrating such a great occasion by the Government of India. It is important to note that Ramnaumi was celebrated in the House of Commons on March 15. Due to the busy schedule of the British parliamentarians during April, the celebration was held in March itself. The Vice-President of the Samiti, Mr Rastra Prakash, said that our politicians should rise above their political interests and come forward and join the Ram Mahotsav in the Parliament and state Assemblies. of Lord Ram and would eliminate disparity among people of the country, apart from promoting
the feeling of patriotism among them. |
