2 crushed to death under boulder

Chamba, March 7
Two persons were crushed to death when a huge boulder rolled down from the hillside and wrecked a private vehicle (HR-03-0760) at Loona on the Chamba-Bharmour highway, about 35 km from here, last night. Three persons were travelling in the vehicle which was coming from Bharmour to Chamba.

According to official sources, Arvind Kumar, Junior Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), who belonged to Bhoranj in Hamirpur district, died on the spot, while Kanheiya Lal, a contractor and resident of the Sultanpur vicinity in Chamba town, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

The owner of the vehicle, Mr Govind, who was at the wheel, stopped the vehicle just to remove certain stones from the highway.

At that time a boulder fell down from the hill with great velocity and crushed the vehicle along with two occupants sitting in it. Govind escaped unhurt.

Baddi, March 7
A minor was allegedly raped by a migrant labourer near Kishapura village under the Barotiwala police station last night.

The police has arrested the accused Sunil Singh. The girl was sent for medical examination. A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, the Dharampur police, led by its SHO, Mr Kanwar Singh Guleria, today seized 23 bottles of country-made liquor from Ranbir Singh on the Kalka-Shimla highway.
