Orders to private schools on timings
Yamunanagar, November 9 Once the private schools implement the new timetable, parents would have to ‘re-schedule’ their daily activities. With the implementation of new timings, hundreds of tutors and tuition academies would also be forced to change timings of their classes. A parent told The Tribune the delayed school timings are good for children but the same may not be good for working parents. In winters a large number of private schools here advance school timings by half hour to one hour on their own. Some of the schools have already advanced school timings between 8 am to 9 am. Principal of the Sacred Heart Convent School, Jagadhri, Ms Kanthi said the new timings (9 am to 3 pm) would come into force from Monday. During the last winters, the school used to assemble at 8.30 am. The Principal of Greenfield School, Ms Veena Handa, said the school would switch to 9 am to 3 pm schedule from next month. Meanwhile, after facing criticism in wake of the death of three schoolchildren in a road accident, the administration has posted traffic cops on all major crossings. The school managements have been asked to post their staff members at school gates before the assembly and after the final bell and ensure that children cross roads safely or embark their vehicles. The buses carrying schoolchildren would drop children inside the school premises and not outside the schools. The school managements have been asked to ensure that their buses adhere to the specified speed limits. Roads passing in front of all educational institutions have already been declared ‘slow traffic zones’. But the district police has only one speed-measuring instrument (gun) and it would not be feasible for the cops to keep check on over-speeding vehicles. Rickshaws fitted with extra wooden benches for carrying schoolchildren have already been banned. Despite the ban in force since five days now, such rickshaws and over-loaded three-wheelers (carrying children) are still a common scene on the roads of the two towns. The administration has decided to install traffic lights on all busy crossings and roundabouts of the two towns. One such lights would also come at the Matka chowk where the children died on November 3. Some traffic lights in Yamunanagar, which have been lying defunct for past several years, now would be made functional. The other road safety measures, include painting zebra crossings near schools, a parallel or slip road would be constructed from Jagadhri Bus Stand on the Ambala road. In a meeting of the district administration chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mr Vijayender Kumar, it has also been decided to lay footpath along all the major roads in the two towns. |
Experts examine school lab in gas leak case
Jind, November 9 Revealing this to The Tribune, the investigating officer Inspector Rajinder Singh, SHO of city police station, said the investigation into the matter was in progress. However, no complaint was lodged in this regard. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate expressed his concern over the incident and said timely action by the police, health authorities, social workers, NGOs and other officials of the local administration averted big tragedy. Admitting that the nature of the incident was serious, he said but a magisterial inquiry into it was not required because it was not a case of any sabotage as evident from the preliminary investigation. He said a special committee was already constituted by the district administration under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner to see whether schools and other educational institutes adopted precautionary measures of disaster management and complied with the rules. Mr Dharam Dev Vidhyarthi, Regional Managing Director of DAV Schools, denied any lapses on part of the school authorities and claimed, “It was a spray being used by women for self-defence in case of an attack by bad elements with an intention of molesting them”. He said the preliminary findings had established that it was an ‘act of mischief’ by some student. |
