CME organises programme on encephalopathy

Chandigarh, March 28
The Department of Internal Medicine and the P.N. Chuttani Centre for Tropical Diseases organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “ Syndrome of febrile encephalopathy” at lecture theatre complex in Nehru Hospital here today. Dr I.C. Pathak, a former Director of the PGI, while inaugurating the programme, highlighted the importance of creating awareness about tropical diseases.

Dr S.K. Sharma, Director of the PGI, was also present on the occasion. Experts from AIIMS, the PGI and the GMCH, Sector 32, discussed the problems faced in the diagnosis and management of patients reporting fever and encephalopathy. Dt Atul Sachdev, Professor (medicine), discussed the clinical approach to be followed in diagonising such patients. Dr Arti Kapil, Additional Professor (Microbiology), AIIMS, deliberated on the role of microbiological investigations in establishing the diagnosis.

Dr N. Khandewal, Professor (Radiology), and Prof S. Prabhakar, Professor and Head (Neurology), PGI, also spoke.

140 children take part in athletic meet

Mohali, March 28
As many as 140 children participated in the 6th annual children athletic meet organised by the Residents Welfare Association, Phase 3B2, here today. Children between five and 16 years of age participated in various sports events, including races, spoon race, matka race banana race etc. A special baby show for children between one and 12 years of age was also held. Mr Pradeep Vohra, Assistant Vice-President, and Branch Head, IndusInd bank Limited, was the chief guest. He gave away prizes to the winners. Before the meet was declared open by the chief guest, the association flag was hoisted by Mr Harbhajan Singh Takkar, president of the association. Mr Amrik Singh Bhatti general secretary, conducted the stage.

Among those who won prizes include Divjot Singh, Sanchi, Avneet Singh, Manpreet Kaur, Harpreet Singh, Unman, Puneet, Gaganjot, Navjot, Preet Inder Singh, Vikram Pratap, Jaswinder, Amrinder Singh, Mihir Sethi. Abhishek, Navjot Kaur, Simpi Sagar, Monika, Jaspreet Singh, Saurabh Singh, Gurmeet Singh,Nivi singh, Navkaran Singh, Palak, Jasman and Ikjot.

Sunny, Kamal win SJOBA rally

Chandigarh, March 28
Sunny Sidhu and Kamal Sidhu who drove Gypsy HRU-0668 with rally number 1 today were the first to arrive at the second leg of the SJOBA Thunderbolt rally here at the St John’s High School, Sector 26. On the basis of their scoring minimum penalties while leading in both first and second leg, both Sunny and Kamal were declared winners in jeep category.

The provisional results were announced this evening by the organisers. Mr Aman Sethi, President of the SJOBA, said the duo of Sanjay Sikand and R. Raza had a breakdown between Bhoj Nagar and Chakki da Mor this afternoon. Surya Karan a two-wheeler rider from Andhra Pradesh had a fall near the Jatog-Tutu road and opted out of the race being injured.

In the car category, Sandeep Sharma and Kulbir Singh in number 14, were adjudged first as they had limited number of penalties. In mobike category, Ashish Sourav Moudgil having number 56 was declared winner. He maintained his lead in both the routes. In scooter category, Charan Ishwar was adjudged first.

Tomorrow, the prize distribution function will be held at North Park Resorts at 7 pm.

Rifle shooting championship: Western Railway emerged overall winner in the 38th All-India Inter-Railway Rifle Shooting championship which concluded on Saturday at the Markfed shooting ranges, Mohali. Eastern Railway got second place while Southern Railway remained at the third place

Inter-institutional cricket tourney: A superb knock of 63 runs off just 29 deliveries by Mohan Singh helped BSNL XI in beating Punjab Financial Corporation XI by a narrow margin of five runs in the semifinals of the Xth Inter-Institutional Cricket tournament played here on the PEC cricket grounds.

Brief scores: BSNL XI:166 runs for six in 20 overs (Mohan Singh 63, Sanjay Bakshi 46, Naresh Dhingra 29). PFC XI: 161 runs for five in 20 overs (Dharam Deepak 62, Manoj Kumar 46).

In the second tie, a brilliant knock of 64 runs by skipper Rajesh Arora enabled his team PEC XI beat Harmukh XI by four wickets.

Brief scores: PEC XI: 152 runs for six in 23.1 overs (Rajesh Arora 64, Satish Chaudhary 38, Manoj Arora 32, Sudesh 15, Sanju 2 for 35).

J.C. Sharma Memorial Cricket: Khushman International XI outplayed the PGI Cricket Club by six wickets in the First Inter-Institutional J.C. Sharma Memorial Cricket tournament played here on Sunday on the 12 Wing Air Force cricket grounds.

Brief scores: PGI CC:152 runs for nine (Raman Sharma 34, Vikas 36, Salion 19, Naveen 27, Jugraj 3 for 26, Anil 2 for 30, Dheeraj 3 for 19).
