Sushma asks voters to re-elect
Sudha, Sangwan Rewari, February 26 She made this assertion while kicking off the BJP’s election campaign at a rally organised at Rao Tula Ram Park here today. Asserting that a huge “Atal wave” was sweeping not only the entire Northern India but the farflung states like Arunanchal Pradesh, Mizoram, Goa, Orissa, etc as well, she said the people of India wanted Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee to be again at the helm of affairs to enable him to accomplish his unfinished task of taking India to more spectacular heights. Laying all speculations at rest about the renomination of the sitting MP, Dr Sudha Yadav, from the Mahendergarh parliamentary constituency, Ms Swaraj exhorted the voters to make her victorious again with a bigger margin in the coming Lok Sabha poll. According to a PTI report, she also appealed to people to re-elect the sitting MP from Sonepat, Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan. She announced that a trauma centre had already been sanctioned for Rewari by the Union Health Ministry. Responding to a request made by former Haryana BJP chief Prof. Ram Bilas Sharma to lead the party as its chief ministerial candidate during the next Assembly elections of Haryana, Ms Swaraj politely declined the request saying that she should not be brought back to Haryana, which happened to be her parental home, from her present residence of her in-laws. On the occasion, Mr Randhir Singh Kapriwas, president of the Jan Jagriti Manch, Mr Lacchman Singh Yadav, former district president of the youth wing of the INLD, Mr Rajender Singh Lodha, former INLD activist of the Jatusana region, Ms Santosh Gochhi, political activist of the Jhajjar region, and others joined the BJP. They were all welcomed into the party fold by the state BJP chief Prof Ganeshi Lal. Earlier, addressing the rally, the Union Labour Minister, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, flayed the “ anti-people” policies of the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, who, he alleged, had betrayed the confidence reposed in him by the people. The rally was also addressed among others by Mr Krishan Pal Gurjar, leader of the Haryana BJP Legislature Party, Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan, MP, Sonepat, Mr Ram Chander Bainda, MP, Faridabad, Prof Ram Bilas Sharma, Prof Ganeshi Lal and Dr Sudha Yadav, MP, Mahendergarh. |

Inadequate
security at Jagadhri sub-jail Yamunanagar, February 26 At present, there are 96 prisoners here as against the authorised accommodation of 30 prisoners. The irony of the situation is that the boundary wall of the sub-jail is 4 feet in height as against the statutory requirement of 21 feet as per provision laid down in the jail manual. It is learnt that many times it was brought to the notice of the government by the jail authorities to provide proper infrastructure but nothing has been done as yet. It is further gathered that recently the District and Sessions Judge, Jagadhri, also brought to the notice of the Registrar, Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Home Secretary, Haryana, and Director-General of Police (Prisons) to provide adequate security at the Sub-Jail, Jagadhri. It is further learnt that there are only three bathrooms for 96 prisoners, which are quite insufficient and even they are also not functioning properly. It is learnt that the sewerage system at jail has been blocked for the past one week and despite reminders to the authorities concerned no appropriate steps have been taken. The sub-jail is surrounded by Roop Nagar, a thickly populated colony and some houses of that colony are close to the main wall of the jail. Out of 19 districts in Haryana three districts have been identified where there are no district jails which include Jagadhri (Yamunanagar district), Panipat and Faridabad. With the efforts of Captain Ajay Singh, Jail Minister, Rewari sub-jail was upgraded as a district jail because he hails from the area. Kaithal which was also made a district along with Yamunanagar got a district jail about 6 months ago. When this newsman contacted Mrs Renu
Phulia, SDM, Jagadhri, she said that the minimum requirement for a district jail was 50 acres but at present they had only one and half acres of land. She said that land acquisition case had already been initiated but they had not received any final clearance from the government. She said that before the new jail started functioning there was a proposal to construct immediate barracks but it would also take time. |

Sonepat resident in trouble over moving Chandigarh, February 26 Taking a serious view of the matter, Mr Justice Mehtab Singh Gill of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has now asked the petitioner, Pale Ram, to show cause why proceedings under the Contempt of Courts Act should not be initiated against him. Pronouncing the orders in an open court on his petition, Mr Justice Gill has also asked him to show cause why proceedings for committing perjury should not be initiated against him. In his order, the Judge ruled: “The Registry has reported that the petitioner filed an application ‘Pale Ram versus state of Haryana’ through an advocate for grant of regular bail. The application was listed before Mr Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel of the high court on January 6”. The Judge concluded: “The petitioner has filed the present petition through another advocate for the grant of regular bail. It seems that the petitioner was trying his luck in different courts simultaneously. Notice be issued to the petitioner to show cause....” Pale Ram was initially booked for causing injuries by the Haryana Police on July 10 last year under Section 323 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was accused of assaulting the complainant in the case. Section 307 of the IPC, regarding attempt to murder, was subsequently added by the police reportedly on the basis of fresh evidence. |

Engineer develops load limiting device Chandigarh, February 26 An 80-year-old Panchkula-based engineer, Mr Hans Raj Mittal, may have a panacea for these troubles. Mr Mittal claims to have developed a “load limiting device”, which will automatically shut the line on which a consumer exceeds the specified load. The small box-like device can be installed by a landlord on the line which goes to the rented out premises. The power authorities can install it near the electricity meter to cut off power supply to a consumer who exceeds his sanctioned load. Thus an indisciplined consumer would not disturb the entire power transmission system of a locality. Once the consumer takes off the excess load, Mr Mittal says, the power supply would resume automatically. The device, based on an electronic circuit, costs about Rs 2,000. For obvious reasons Mr Mittal did not discuss the details of the circuit. Mr Mittal, who retired as a Chief Engineer of a private sugar mill, was approached recently by a top functionary in the sugar mills owned by the Birla group, to develop such a device so that it could be installed by the mills at the premises of its employees, who get free power from their employers. Since the power is free, its misuse is a natural corollary. It took Mr Mittal about five months to develop the device, the capacity of which can be raised to any level without much additional cost. |

Protesters seek cops’ arrest
for youth’s death Jind, February 26 They were demanding the arrest of the police officials responsible for the death. They said if the officials were not arrested, they would not cremate the body, which was lying in the hospital. The protesters formed a Sangharsh Samiti on this issue. Meanwhile, the police registered a case under Section 302, IPC, against an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Mr Heera Lal, a head constable, Mr Jaipal, and four other police officials in connection with the death. Mr Mukesh Ahuja, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, tried to pacify the agitators but they were adamant that the officials involved be arrested immediately. Homoeopaths
