Irrigation water denied for failure to follow ‘desilting orders’

The authorities of the Irrigation Department have adopted a novel way to penalise the farmers of Chidana and Shamri villages in Gohana sub division of this district. The farmers have been denied irrigation water as they have declined to desilt the Bijewa minor in accordance with the “orders” of the officials of the Irrigation Department.

Patwari burnt to death in sleep
Sonepat, January 27
Mr Rohtas, a patwari was burnt to death in sleep at Gandhi Nagar in Ganaur town, 16 km from here last night.
According to a report, the victim who belonged to Bajana Khurd, had been living along with his family. The cause of the fire was not known and the police had sent the body for the postmortem examination.

DUTA to stage dharna against proposed Model Act
New Delhi, January 27
The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will stage a dharna outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Thursday.
In a statement issued here today, the DUTA president, Dr Aditya Narayan Misra, has said that the dharna will be organised to protest against the UGC’s proposed Model Act and “irregular and anti-academic functioning of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deepak Nayyar”.
