Says certificate of son is false

The authorities of Sacred Heart Convent School here have approached the police to take action against a Youth Akali Dal leader, Mr Inder Mohan Singh Kadian, for allegedly submitting false birth certificate of his son to get admission to the school.

Mayor in race for Cong LS ticket?
Ludhiana, January 27
The Mayor, Mr Nahar Singh Gill, seems to be in the race for the Congress ticket from the Ludhiana parliamentary constituency. Of late he has reportedly been shuttling between Delhi and Chandigarh to prepare the ground in this regard.

14 awarded at R-Day function
Ludhiana, January 27
Fourteen persons were honoured at the 55th Republic Day celebration organised by the district administration at Government College for Boys here yesterday. Dr Ramesh, renowned ophthalmologist and Director of Punarjot Eye Bank, was honoured for his contribution in the field of eye donation.

State economy back on track, says Bhattal

While stating that the state’s economy was back on track, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, yesterday said the state government would soon execute various developmental works, adding that Rs 1,500 crore would be spent on these.

Pick-pockets killed youth, say cops
Ludhiana, January 27
A gang of pick-pockets-cum-homosexuals allegedly murdered a youth early this month in the city for not submitting to its demands. The youth, a new entrant to the gang was hit with iron rods on the intervening night of January 17 and 18 when he spurned the sexual overtures of four drunk gang members.

Tributes paid to Satguru Ram Singh
Ludhiana, January 27
Rich tributes were paid to Satguru Ram Singh, a founder of the Non-cooperation Movement of the freedom struggle, at a state-level function organised by the Punjab Government to commemorate his 189th birth anniversary at Bhaini Sahib, near here, last evening.

National Tourism Week celebrated

National Tourism Week was celebrated in the state from January 19 to 25 to commemorate the foundation of the Department of Tourism on January 25, 1956.

Couple killed in accident
Khanna, January 27
A couple was died and four persons were injured in a road accident near Bhattian village early morning yesterday. According to sources, a family was going to Ludhiana from Delhi when a tyre of their car got punctured near Khanna. The driver stopped the car to change the tyre. In the meantime, a truck (HR38D-2464) hit the car from the rear.

Ludhiana, January 27
The division number 7 police yesterday registered a case under Sections 279, 427 and 304-A of the IPC on the statement of Mr Babu Ram, a migrant from Uttar Pradesh now living in Harash Kumar Da Vehra in New Madho Puri, against Joginder Singh of Jind district in Haryana.

Poverty is the root cause which tempts needy persons here to donate kidneys in lieu of money. This was stated by Dr David Cranston, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon at Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust, Oxford, UK, who was here to deliver a guest lecture at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) today.
