Bhajan Lal may skip Rewari meeting Gurgaon, September 21 He is also not likely to attend another meeting organised on the same day by Congress leader Rao Inderjit Singh. This will spare the Congress major embarrassment as the General
Secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) and in charge of party’s affairs in Haryana, Mr Nawal Kishore Sharma, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, Mr Bhupider Singh Hooda, are all set to attend the public meeting organised by Rao Inderjit Singh. The venue of the two meetings are at a stone throw from each other. The ruling INLD in the state and the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP) have also thrown their hats into the muddled Ahirwal politics of south Haryana encompassing Gurgaon, Rewari, Faridabad, Mahendregarh, Jhajhar, and Bhiwani districts. While the General Secretary of the HVP, Mr Anil Rao, has decided to offer floral tributes to the statue of the 1857 local hero, Rao Tula Rao, here along with hundreds of party activists, the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, will address a public meeting at Nasibpur in Mahendregarh district on the same day. According to sources, the Congress politicking in the Ahirwal belt has become farcical with leaders trying to prove their individual popularity. The president of the Sarvo Jati Janata Panchayat, Mr Rahu Yadav, whose supporters say is angling to join the Congress, is close to his once bete noire, Mr Bhajan Lal. In fact, since his mobilisation campaign, he has maintained that Mr Bhajan Lal will be the chief guest at the public meeting being organised by him. Yesterday he publicly stated that while Mr Bhajan
Lal would be the chief guest, the Congress MLAs, Capt Ajay Yadav, Rao Narender
Singh, Rao Dharam Pal and Mrs Anita Yadav, would also attend the meeting. However, Capt. Ajay Yadav, who is also Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Haryana Assembly today ruled out his participation in either of the two meetings at Rewari. Significantly, Capt Yadav is a Congress MLA from Rewari. He said the organisers of the two meetings, including Mr Rao Inderjit Singh, were trying to draw political mileage by invoking the name of Rao Tula Ram. Like him, Rao Dharam Pal, the MLA from Sohna in Gurgaon district, is unlikely to attend any of the meetings in Rewari. According to sources, Capt Yadav plans to organise a separate public meeting on another date to prove that he is more popular than Rao Inderjit Singh. While the Congress is mainly divided between Mr Bhajan Lal and Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda at the state level, in the Ahirwal belt it is literally Rao Inderjit Singh versus many of the leaders in the organisation. The former has now aligned himself with the anti-Bhajan Lal camp at the state level. |
DIG meets deceased scribe’s family Chandigarh, September 21 According to sources, Mr Ahlawat met members of the family of Mr Goyal at Kaithal for a few hours yesterday. It is not known what the victim’s sons, Naresh, alias Goldy and Naveen, alias Rinku, had told the DIG. Sources say the Goyals, who had rejected the investigation by the bureau, are not cooperating with the SIT fully. The Goyals are stated to have expressed fears about their lives. To allay their fears, the police has provided them with security. Sources say the SIT has conducted several raids in the past two days for certain known criminals of Kaithal and the surrounding areas. The SIT is also inquiring if Mr Goyal, who spent several months in jail following his arrest in two corruption cases, had developed any special association with any criminal lodged in the jail. Mr Goyal, who came out on bail on September 9, his family members allege, was falsely implicated in these cases. The bullet recovered from Mr Goyal’s body is stated to be of .315 bore, which is prohibited. It bears words. “KF 96”, which show that it was made in the Khikhri factory in 1996. The SIT will try to find out from arms dealers of the area tomorrow if any of them had sold the bullets of this batch recently and to whom. It could not contract the dealers today as their shops were closed. According to the post-mortem report, the bullet entered the mid-auxiliary region, rupturing liver. It penetrated the diaphragm, the right lung, the heart, the arch of aorta, the left lung and was lodged under the soft tissue, causing instantaneous death. |
Sampat mobilises support for Karnal rally Fatehabad, September 21 He also addressed public meetings in several villages of his Bhattu Kalan constituency in connection with mobilisation of support for the September 25 Karnal rally to be organised on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the former Deputy Prime Minister Chowdhary Devi Lal. Mr Sampat Singh said that the INLD government in the state was committed to implement the policies of Devi Lal. He said that the present government had been providing sufficient power and irrigation water to its farmers. Efforts had also been made to take water to farms located on a height by raising the level of minors and distributaries. He said that Chowdhary Devi Lal was not an individual but an institution unto himself. He said the late leader had struggled throughout his life for ameliorating the standard of living of farmers. He said that if the farmers were getting remunerative prices for their crops today it was all due to stand taken by ‘Tau’ during his lifetime. He said that Chowdhary Devi Lal not only improved the lot of farmers but brought about a revolution by awakening the farmers about their rights. He said that the Haryana Government was celebrating his birth anniversary at Karnal on September 25. |

Plan to build houses, shops Fatehabad, September 21 Mr Batra said considering the housing problem being faced by the local people and an artificial spurt in the prices of immovable property created by some unscrupulous property dealers, the Trust had decided to provide residential plots to people at affordable prices. He said the Trust had already selected sites for that purpose, but refused to divulge the sites as it could prompt the property dealers to create an artificial hike in the prices of immovable property in those areas. The residential as well as commercial sectors would be developed on the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) pattern, he added. The Improvement Trust Chairman also informed that the Trust would soon auction plots of booths and shop-cum-flats in Phase 2 of its scheme Number 1, which is known as Tau Devi Lal market. He said the new phase would be named after Lala Lajpat
