Cong leader Hooda’s
cousin untraced Chandigarh, August 1 Mr Rajender Singh Hooda, Mr Bhupinder Singh’s cousin who looks after his media relations, could not be traced till reports last came in. Talking to TNS over the phone, Mr Ajay Rautella, Additional Superintendent of Police, Hardwar, said a helicopter belonging to the Punjab Government made several sorties today to locate Rajender Singh, but to no avail. Mr Rautella said though search by fire brigade and police personnel to locate Rajender Singh was on, there appears to be little chance of his survival. Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda and nine other persons, including Mr Y.P. Gupta, Special Correspondent of The Tribune, and Mr Rajender Singh, were going to Bajpur in Uttaranchal to attend the “Kirya” ceremony of Mr Hooda’s uncle, Mr Fateh Singh. Their cars, one Ambasador and one Indica, met with an accident while trying to cross the Peeli river which had submerged a portion of the Hardwar-Moradabad road. Mr S.K. Maheswari, DC, Hardwar, told TNS that the mishap took place 6 km from Shyampur police station. As the water flow was strong a passenger bus, which was ahead of the two cars, retreated from the affected patch. The two cars, however, tried to cross the area but lost their balance in the strong current of the hill river. The occupants of the car, except for the drivers, who had earlier disembarked were pushed in different directions by water. The accident took place around 8-30 p.m. last night and it was Pradeep, a gunman attached to Mr Hooda who somehow managed to emerge out of water and informed the local police. Mr Maheswari said a search operation started around 11 p.m. as a result of which all but two persons — Mr Y.P. Gupta and Mr Rajender Singh — were rescued. While Mr Y.P. Gupta was found on Friday morning, there is no report of Mr Rajender Singh and the worst is feared about him. Mr Hooda, Mr Y.P. Gupta, Mr Jagdev Malik and others were kept in Jairam Ashram at Hardwar after being given first aid. Mrs Asha Hooda, who went to Hardwar from Delhi to meet her husband, said that Mr Hooda was staying back at Hardwar to be in touch with the search parties that were still looking for Rajender Singh. |
Fake firms supplying AIDS kits Hisar, August 1 According to official sources, certain persons had been supplying these kits and also receiving payments by cheques although in one case the firm never existed and in another case the original Ahmedabad-based firm in whose name the kits were supplied maintained that they had stopped selling these kits in December last year. The Director Health, Haryana, had during an inspection in June this year suspected something fishy in the supply of blood testing kits. The local officials were asked to probe into the matter. The officials seized several bills and kits from various blood banks. Many of these bills pertained to an Ambala cantonment-based firm. When the officials reached there it was found that no such firm had its office at the address given in the bills. Inquiries revealed that at no time in the past any such firm existed at the given address. The authorities also contacted the Ahmedabad firm and sent some of the bills purported to be issued by it for verification. The firm reported back that the bills were fake and they had not supplied any of these kits after December, 2002. Further probe revealed that Pankaj Gupta had opened an account in the name of the firm with the local Urban Cooperative Bank and had been depositing the cheques in that account and then withdrawing the money. The matter has now been referred to the State Drugs Controller. Meanwhile, a local private blood bank has also lodged an FIR against Pankaj Gupta and two others alleging that they had duped it by supplying fake bills. |
Panchayat officer suspended Hisar, August 1 He gave the orders after a deputation of women from Dhani Khan Bahadur village met him during his tour of the Barwala Assembly segment last evening. Earlier, addressing public meetings on the first day of his three-day tour of the Assembly segment Mr Chautala assured villagers that the rural areas in the state would be developed on the same lines as the urban areas. Mr Chautala targeted the Congress and alleged that when in power Congress leaders only worked on the divide and rule theory. The Chief Minister inaugurated a Rs 55 lakh waterworks project at Panghal village of the constituency. He also planted saplings at several villages and also heard public grievances. |
Man held for bid to get licence on fake ID Hisar, August 1 According to official sources, a munshi working with a local lawyer came to the office of the Subdivisional Magistrate and applied for the issuance of a driving licence on behalf of another person. During scrutiny of documents, it was found that the photo-copy of the voter card attached to the application as proof of identity and address was fake. While one side indicated it had been issued in Rajasthan, the reverse showed that the card had been issued in Haryana. The matter was reported to the SDM who called the police and handed over the culprit. It is reported that these fake documents had been got attested. Enquiries will on to determine whether the attestation too was fake. The police suspect the involvement of others in the case. |
