Gurjar accuses Chautala of corruption Chandigarh, July 9 Mr Gurjar, who was apparently provoked by a statement made by Mr Abhey Chautala at Panchkula on Monday regarding a vigilance probe against three former ministers of the BJP, challenged the Chief Minister to put him behind the bars on the basis of the vigilance inquiry being carried out against him. The BJP leader said the charges made by Mr Om Prakash Chautala or his MLA son, Mr Abhey Singh Chautala, would not determine whether a person was honest or dishonest. “The public will decide who is honest and who is not at the time of the elections”, Mr Gurjar said. Talking to newsmen here today, Mr Gurjar alleged the Chief Minister indulged in widespread corruption, and claimed that Mr Chautala had bought properties even in foreign countries including Australia. If his allegations were found to be untrue, he could be punished, Mr Gurjar said. About the state government’s decision to give additional charge of the State Vigilance Bureau(SVB) to DGP M.S. Malik, Mr Gurjar said Mr K. Koshy and subsequently Mr G S Malhi were shifted from the SVB Director’s office because they refused to implicate politicians in false cases. “Mr Malik is a stooge of Chautala. He does whatever he is asked to do”, the BJP MLA said, a team of state BJP leaders would meet Home Minister L.K. Advani and urge him to ask the CBI to probe the properties amassed by various political leaders of Haryana. Mr Gurjar added the state BJP would be delighted if the INLD decided to sever ties with it. “We have been requesting our high command time and again to snap ties with the INLD”, he said. |
Chander, Abhey trade charges
Panchkula, July 9 The “invasion” into this Congress citadel by Mr Abhey Chautala has also prodded the party leadership to throw its hat in the ring and pose a challenge to the Indian National Lok Dal leadership in the local municipal counsel. Mr Chander Mohan, local Congress MLA and son of state Congress chief, Bhajan Lal, in a show of strength with at least seven Congress councillors, today claimed that the local unit of the party was all geared up to pose a formidable opposition in the municipal council here, till the time they gained the requisite majority to dethrone the INLD President. Claiming that Mr Abhey Chautala’s announcement to contest the next Assembly elections against him from the Kalka Assembly seat was of no significance, Mr Chander Mohan said, “The people of this constituency will teach them a lesson. Inka to kaam hai ek halke se doosre mein bhagna. Kabi Uttaranchal, kabhi Delhi or ab Rajasthan. Yahan par inko moonh tor jawab milega.” The MLA said “I cannot stoop to his (Abhey’s) level and make allegations. He called me, my father and other family members names in different public meetings. He did not even spare our party President, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, but my family values forbid me to lose grace and speak in their language,” he said. Talking about the formation of the municipal council, elections and the subsequent political fallout for his party, Mr Chander Mohan said though the party was opposed to the constitution of a local body here and had boycotted the elections, the “pressurising of Congress-minded Councillors” by the INLD and forcing them to join their party, had forced them to bring their Councillors together and stand with them. “I will now be attending meetings of the municipal council to show my solidarity with the councillors,” he said. Mr Chander Mohan said other than the seven councillors present with him today, another four were expected to come back in the party fold shortly. “In no time, we will manage a majority and then dethrone Mrs Seema Chaudhary as president,” he claimed. He also spoke about the misuse of official machinery during Mr Chautala’s visit. :He is not a Chief Minister that work in all district offices have to be closed for officers to tag along with him in his public meetings.” The District Congress president, Mr R.S. Chauhan, while addressing mediapersons, said against the claims made by Mr Abhey Chautala about carrying development works in the satellite township, it was the Congress that had allocated money on the development of Panchkula, which was now being used by the Chautala government. “It was the Congress that had given Panchkula a district status,” he added. |

One of them told Chandigarh Tribune on the condition of anonymity that this was ridiculous as even a peon got more salary.
