New Delhi, March 22
When CNN senior international correspondent Walter Rodgers, embedded with the 3-7th Cavalry tanks galloping at speeds of up to 60 km per hour inside Iraq, transmitted dramatic footage live, he was aware that he was making history.

This was the first time in the broadcasting history of the world when marching tanks inside the targeted country were being transmitted live from new and challenging environments.

In order to achieve these historic images, Mr Rodgers used a standard videophone system connected to a specially developed tracking satellite phone antenna, mounted on the vehicle roof. This antenna has the ability to lock onto a satellite beacon and remains stationary even as the vehicle it is mounted on turns, bounces and motors along at a speed up to 100 km per hour.

Photographer Charlie Miller filmed from numerous positions from inside and outside the car, bracing himself as best as he could on the car frame, while Mr Rodgers concentrated on reporting. Engineer Jeff Barwise concentrated on ensuring that the equipment worked all right.
