AMLOH
CRICKET TOURNEY: The Shere-Punjab Sports Club, Bhambri, will organise a cricket tournament at Bhambri village from November 11 to 20. According to Mr Sukhdev Singh, president of the club, it will be inaugurated by Mr Hari Chand Mittal, president, Arhti Association, Amloh, while Mr Sukhwinder Singh Bhambri, president, Municipal Council, Mandi Gobindgarh, will give away prized to the winner teams.

ELECTORAL ROLLS: Mr Amarjeet Singh Shahi, SDM-cum-electoral registration officer, Amloh, has stated in a press note issued here on Sunday that the date for decision on claims and objections regarding the electoral rolls of 19 wards of the Municipal Council, Mandi Gobindgarh, has been extended to November 22. Any person may submit his claim or objection by November 12.HOSHIARPUR

DCC FUNCTION : The District Congress Committee here is organising a state-level function on the eve of the 83rd birth anniversary of the late Indira Gandhi on November 19. Mr Kuldip Nanda, president of the DCC, said here on Saturday that Ms Ambika Soni, General Secretary and political secretary to the AICC President, would be the chief guest. Ms Mohsina Kidwai, General Secretary, AICC, and Capt Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab, would be the guests of honour.

MEDICAL CAMP: A medical camp was organised by the District Health Department at Thakur Dass Asha Kiran School for mentally challenged children here on Friday. A team of doctors headed by Dr Ajay Bagga examined students of the school and provided them with medicines. Dr M.L. Kakkar, Civil Surgeon, said the Health Department would organise a monthly medical camp for the school.

BATHINDA
APPOINTED: Mr Madanjeet Singh Walia, has been appointed Liaison Officer of the Punjab Congress. This was claimed in a press note issued on Sunday.

TRUST TO GIVE NOTEBOOKS: The Mata Gulab Kaur Memorial Trust will distribute notebooks and other stationery material to about 20,000 students of primary and middle schools in the Barnala area. Mr Malkiat Singh Keetu, MLA, Barnala, inaugurated distributing notebooks to some students at Cheema village on Saturday. As per a press note of the trust issued here on Sunday, poor students would be given other financial help also.

HOSHIARPUR

JALANDHAR
RECRUITMENT RALLY: The Punjab Regimental Centre would organise a recruitment rally at Dogra Ground in the cantonment here from November 11 to 24. In a official press note issued here on Saturday, an Army spokesman said that the recruitment would be carried out for Sikh candidates (except Mazhabis and Ramdasias) belonging to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, North-West Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on November 13 and 14 and other caste candidates should appear for recruitment on November 15.

LUDHIANA
CHILDREN’S DAY: A Children’s Day festival started at Ebony on Saturday. A purchase ranging from soft toys to watches and walkman from the kids section will ensure a free gift, during the festival. According to a press note, the festival will continue till November 14. The money spent on clothes, toys and books for kids will see a fixed percentage moving to the Red Cross Society. Certificates will be given to children who contribute or donate something for being part of the ‘Givt a smile programme’.

ROOTS NURSERY: Roots Nursery School celebrated Children’s Day on Sunday. Tiny-tots came in fancy dresses. Parents were invited to join in the fun and frolic at various stalls specially put up for them and children.

MANSA
DIET: The proposal to shift the DIET from Budhlada to Bhaini Bhaga has been opposed by Mr Hardev Arshi, former CPI legislator of the constituency. Mr Arshi, talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, said for setting up the DIET at Budhlada, the gram panchayat of Ahmedpur village had donated 11 acres of land in 1994. He said shifting of the DIET from Budhlada would deprive the students of this backward area of education.

OFFICE-BEARERS: The following have been elected office-bearers of Khadoor Sahib united of the Vikas Manch, Punjab: president — Mr Surjit Singh; vice-president — Mr Manjinder Singh; general secretary — Mr Gursharan Singh; joint secretary — Mr Manjit Singh; organising secretary — Mr Naginder Singh; press secretary — Mr Amardeep Singh; and finance secretary — Mr Satnam Singh.

ACCIDENTS: Mr Balkar Singh, member of the panchayat of Sohawa falling under the Sarhali police station, died in a road accident on Saturday morning when his tractor was hit by a tanker. The Sarhali police has registered a case against the driver. According to another report, Raju (24) working at the local Gill Palace on the Goindwal road died under mysterious circumstances. His body was found from the palace by the police. The police has registered a case.

SARPANCH BOOKED: Bikramjit Singh, sarpanch of Alipur village falling under the Harike police station along with his wife and one of his aides have been booked in a land fraud case. The Harike police has registered a case under Sections 420, 467 and 468, IPC. All three have absconded.

HEALTH CAMP: More than 60 persons donated blood and 225 patients were examined and given medicines free of cost at a camp organised by St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, here on Sunday. The camp was organised as part of the silver jubilee celebrations. A team of doctors from General Hospital, examined the patients.

COMPETITION: To create awareness about health-related issues, the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Health Clinic at the Government Medical College and Hospital, organised a painting competition for school children. About 150 students from various schools of the city participated in the competition with topics like vehicular pollution, road safety, good food habits , drug abuse, HIV/AIDS and anti-terrorism. The winners in category one are Ms Surabhi Kamboj, Ms Shukti Tapaswi and Ms Eeshma, category II — Ms Maju Negi, Ms Stanzin Dukgyais and Ms Navneet Kaur and category III (Vth to VIIth) — Ms Shuita Kataria and Ankit and VIII to X— Baldev Negi and Ravkiran Raj.

PANCHKULA
BLOOD DONATION CAMP: As many as 51 persons donated blood at a camp organised at Jain Sthanak in Sector 17 here on Sunday. The camp was organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of Acharya Ravinder Muni. Over 50 persons also pledged to donate their eyes.

BHIWANI
WOMAN ATTACKED: An elderly woman was attached by two persons following a land dispute here on Saturday. The wife of Hunna Mal was attacked by neighbours on her way to the fields. She alleged the assailants snatched her necklace. She has been admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

VIGILANCE CASE: The state Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against two former sarpanches and five persons of Palwas village in this district for causing a loss of Rs 1 lakh to the panchayat by selling coal made from over 13,000 trees on panchayati land. The case has been registered against Krishan Chander and Surender Singh, gram secretary Phool Chand Yadav, fishery officer Rohtash Singh and contractor Santgiri.

SIRSA
LEGAL SERVICES DAY: Legal Services Day was celebrated on Saturday at the courts complex here under the chairmanship of Mr M.S. Sullar, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. Mr Sullar pointed out that the District Legal Services Authority not only arranged for court fee, but also engaged advocates on behalf of those provided legal aid. Mr A.S. Narang, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.

CM’S DIRECTIONS: Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, has directed the departments to fill vacant posts reserved for the physically disabled on a priority basis to ensure their speedy rehabilitation. He was reviewing the progress in this respect here on Saturday.
