Burglars who attacked Shanti Bhushan nabbed

The South district police today claimed to have arrested the burglars who had looted the house of former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan’s sister-in-law Rajni Rani on November 5.

Surajkund Fest bids fair to become a grand event
Faridabad, November 10
Although the response of the business community to the proposed industrial fair at Surajkund from December 21 to 29, named as ‘Surajkund Trade Fest – 02’, is still not known, the organisers hope to make it a big annual event on the pattern of India International Trade Fair (IITF) held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi in November each year.

Top cops at Bulandshahr  shunted out

Within three months, the police in Bulandshahr is once again in the dock. The Debai police, who had first kidnapped a businessman and then allegedly killed him, are facing the wrath of the people after the recovery of his body.

Ambedkar statue damaged 
Meerut, November 10
Some anti-social elements vandalised the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Dhampur village under Incholi police station, 10 km from the district headquarters. The miscreants removed the glasses from the bust and garlanded it with slippers and shoes before damaging it in different places. Later, they tarred the statue black in mobil oil.

Adulterated petrol pollutes Sonepat
Sonepat, November 10
In and around Sonepat, most of the filling stations are allegedly selling adulterated petrol, and the authorities have just winked at the practice. According to a report, they also weigh less fuel to the customers since there is no arrangement for public utility service at these filling stations.

In an emotionally charged address to the students of Asian Academy of Film and TV, former foreign secretary Romesh Bhandari gave a clarion call for overhauling the political and bureaucratic system of the country.

Mangolpuri man killed in mishap
Jhajjar, November 10
One person was killed when a Maruti car collided with a scooter near Krishan akhara on the National Highway No 10 in Bahadurgarh here today. According to information, the deceased, Brij Lal of Mangolpuri in Delhi, was coming towards Bahadurgarh on his scooter (DL 8S 2356) when a Maruti car coming from the opposite direction collided with it. Brij Lal was rushed to a Delhi hospital where he died later.

Censor board to monitor TV channels demanded
New Delhi, November 10
The National Akali Dal today demanded the setting up of a separate censor board to monitor television channels and strict action against those depicting vulgarity. Alleging that satellite channels were promoting an “immoral lifestyle” in the country, Paramjeet Singh Pamma, president of the National Akali Dal, said that the guilty channels should be shut down. He was addressing a demonstration here.

‘Motherland better than heaven’

Shri Satpal Maharaj said that the people of India belonging to different religions were like different flowers and the eternal soul within all of them was the thread of the garland. Differences cropped up due communalism, casteism and superstitions.

The police have been unable to make any arrest so far in connection with loot and murder in an ashram in a temple at Deegot village near Palwal town in the district on Friday night.

Polio virus spreads its tentacles in UP

Polio virus has spread in half a dozen districts of western UP, affecting mostly children who, as a result of the scourge, have become physically challenged. These districts are Meerut, Ghaziabad, Etawa, Badun, Bulandshahr, Moradabad etc. where, according to the World Health Organisation’s experts, the virus can affect more people in the months to come.

Vijay Singh wins BILT Skins Golf

Vijay Singh of Fiji won the BILT Skins Golf title to pocket a hefty purse of US $ 21,500 at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Sunday. Jyoti Randhawa maintained his good form playing consistent golf and claiming eight skins after winning the eighth hole outright, with a birdie to accumulate skins worth $ 9000. He then birdied the par-five ninth to take his skins tally to $ 10,500.

Bid to take over ‘shamlat’ land thwarted 
Rohtak, November 10
Prompt action by the district administration has thwarted an attempt of over 25 shareholders of a ‘shamlat’ land adjoining the new bus stand to strike an underhand deal for nearly Rs 3.25 crore allegedly in connivance with some of the revenue personnel.
