rally at Sirsa today Chandigarh, September 21 The Congress will organise a rally at Sirsa tomorrow to felicitate Mr Bhajan Lal on his becoming the President of the party in the state. The star attraction will be the son of the late Madho Rao Scindia. Next day the ruling party, the INLD, will organise a rally at Jhajjar to commemorate the martyrdom day of Shahid Rao Tula Ram. A sub-group of the Congress led by Mr Inderjit Singh will organise a similar function at Rewari, which is likely to be attended by all those party leaders, who are considered to be anti-Bhajan Lal. After a day’s rest the INLD will organise a state-level rally at Jind to the celebrate the birth
anniversary of Devi Lal. Though an annual feature of the INLD, this year the September 25 rally is being described by INLD leaders as an answer to all the rallies which have been organised so far by Mr Bhajan Lal after becoming the President of the Haryana Congress. The INLD and the State Government have arranged a series of functions on September 25 to celebrate the 89th birth anniversary of Devi Lal. Before coming to Jind, the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, will participate in a prayer meeting to be organised at “Sangharsh Sthal”, the samadhi of Devi Lal in Delhi. Youth Cong seeks aid for farmers Jind, September 21 Later, they organised a rally in front of the local Mini Secretariat and sent a memorandum to the Governor of Haryana through the Deputy Commissioner of Jind. The memorandum stated that the state government was promoting corruption and nepotism and was giving protection to the criminals and, therefore, it should be dismissed. They demanded that in view of the drought conditions, recovery of bank loans of farmers should be postponed for two years, compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre be given to the farmers and Rs 5,000 to each farm labourer affected by the drought. Mr Surjewala alleged that the Haryana Government had failed to fulfil its election promises made to the farmers. He said resentment prevailed among the farmers as the government had failed to fully implement an agreement reached between the Bharatiya Kisan Union and the government. Keeping in view the sentiments of the farmers, the INLD should not organise a rally at Jind on September 25 to celebrate the birth anniversary of late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal. Mr Surjewala alleged that the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated and there was a feeling of insecurity among the people. |
Minister
sent to judicial custody Panchkula, September 21 Meanwhile, acting on a bail application moved by the accused, the court also issued notice to the state of Haryana to file reply. The application will now come up for further hearing on September 26. Earlier, contractor Gautam Sethi complained to the Haryana Vigilance Bureau alleging that the minister, through a Sub Divisional Officer, had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him. Mr Sethi had been given the contract for the construction of Sector 6 General Hospital building by the Haryana Government in 1998. In an affidavit to the bureau, Mr Sethi had alleged that the minister conducted inquiries about some alleged discrepancies in the construction work and demanded the money to settle the case. He used an SDO with the HPWD as a mediator. Acting on the complaint of Mr Sethi, the bureau booked him under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He had been eluding his arrest since then. The minister had also evaded his arrest warrants, non-bailable warrants and was later declared a proclaimed offender. As a result, the court started attaching his movable and immovable properties. In the meantime, he was arrested by the Gurgaon police in some other criminal cases from where the Panchkula police today sought his arrest. While talking to the TNS the former minister said he was a victim of political vindictiveness and was implicated in a false case. He alleged that former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal had implicated him in false cases since the time he left the Haryana Vikas Congress. Mr Bansi Lal was shielding Sethi and seven other senior departmental officials. ‘‘After going through the records I had found misappropriation of Rs 27 lakh and had suspended seven senior HPWD officials in this connection. Just in a couple of weeks after I left the party, cases were registered against me’’, he claimed. |
