DJB okays projects to upgrade infra
New Delhi, September 4 The board granted approval for the award of the consultancy work for Delhi Water Supply Improvement Project for the rehabilitation of the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The project is estimated at an overall cost of Rs 2,018 crore. Chandrawal WTP is the oldest treatment plant and caters to about 2.20 million people. To augment water supply through recycling wastewater on a sustainable basis, the DJB approved the award of project design and bid management for the construction of the 40 MGD wastewater treatment plant and pumping station at Palla. This is being done with the support of the Government of Singapore. It is one of the major steps taken by the DJB to develop alternative source of water. To improve the environmental, social and hygienic conditions in the unsewered areas of Delhi, the board approved a pilot project for providing sewerage system in Bijwasan (West). "This technology is being piloted by the board as an appropriate, low-cost solution for the areas with low availability of water. The project will be completed at a total cost of about Rs 1,391 lakh for the supply and installation of sewage collection system, the proposed STP and surface reinstatement work," said a senior DJB official. For the residents of unauthorized colonies, the board approved the work of providing and laying the internal and peripheral sewer line, ranging from 280mm to 900mm diameter in the Bhalswa group of colonies. The project is expected to be completed in 12 months. |

Ownership papers to resettlement colonies, a farce: BJP
New Delhi, September 4 "The residents of the 45 resettlement colonies have been living there for decades as these colonies were developed between 1960 and 1980. They have natural rights over the plots they have been residing on. So, the Delhi Government's announcement means practically nothing to the residents," Goel said. Most of the families of these colonies are displaced people, who came to live in the resettlement colonies when their JJ clusters were removed or demolished. They are not in a position to pay lakhs of rupees at par with the circle rates, he said. The government has already burdened them with high power and water bills. Earlier, each dwelling in these colonies was considered a single unit as far as the billing of power and water consumption was concerned, but now each floor on these dwelling units is being treated a separate unit. This has put a heavy burden on the families living in these colonies, he said. Goel added that the resettlement colonies in different parts of the city, including Sriniwaspuri, Wazirpur, Satya Niketan, Janakpuri, Pankha Road and Madangir do not have the basic amenities. |
Friend, live-in partner involved in two rape cases
New Delhi, September 4 "Based on the woman's complaint, we have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code section 376 (punishment for sexual assault) at the New Usmanpur police station. We are trying to verify her allegations and have therefore not arrested the three men. During our investigations, we learnt that there was a property dispute between the accused and the victim," said the officer. The woman in her complaint to the police alleged that last evening, Shahzad told her that he had found a job for her. "She alleges that he took her on his motorcycle to Yamuna Khadar, located near the Yamuna river. There, Iman and the third man arrived on another motorcycle. They took her to an isolated place, where Shahzad raped her, while the other two held her legs and gagged her," said the officer. The three men then fled, leaving the victim there, according to her complaint. She made a call to the police at about 8 pm. The police took her to the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in Shastri Park. "Her medical examination revealed that no forceful thing had happened to her," admitted the officer. In another incident, a 40-year-old woman alleged that her live-in partner had been raping her on the pretext of marriage. The woman belongs to Kerala and has been staying in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar area. She works as a nurse. Her husband had died about 10 years ago, according to sources. For the past eight years, she had been staying with her live-in partner. She went to the Pandav Nagar police station today and complained of rape against him. Sources said that she had also alleged that at his behest, she had undergone several abortions. The police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (punishment for sexual assault) and 312 (causing miscarriage) at the Pandav Nagar police station. |
Two extra trains on Sect-Badarpur line
New Delhi, September 4 "Till now, only one platform was being used for boarding and deboarding at Central Secretariat Metro station of Line-6. With the introduction of the two additional trains, passengers can now avail the trains from both the platforms alternately for going towards Badarpur," he said. This move has also increased the frequency of trains on this line from 3 minute 44 seconds to 3 minute 25 seconds and the trains will also run 13 extra trips making it a total of 401 trips. Since alternative train would be available at both the platforms at Central Secretariat during the peak hours (8:30 am to 11:00 am), passengers are advised not to rush to other platform. "Presently, the average ridership of Line-6 is 1.60 lakh. The Delhi Metro network is among the fastest growing networks in the world. It has grown to 190 kms of operational network since it has started operations in 2002 and is presently carrying about 25 lakh passengers every day," added the spokesperson. |
