Man booked for driving wife to commit suicide

Hoshiarpur, June 12
The Hajipur police has booked Sanjeev Kumar, son of Joginder Singh, of Nangal Bihala under Section 304-B of the IPC for allegedly compelling his wife to commit suicide.

According to police sources, Neha, daughter of Balbir Singh of Mansar, was married to Sanjeev Kumar on May 5, 2011. Sanjeev Kumar allegedly used to torture and maltreat his wife for bringing dowry from her parents. On June 10, 2013, Sanjeev Kumar took his wife from her parental house from Mansar and on that night, mercilessly beat her for not asking her brother to give a car and dowry etc. Frustrated at her regular torture, Neha committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance yesterday.

Dowry cases

The Garhdiwala police has booked Jiwan Singh, son of Gurdev Singh of Bei Pui Khandoor Sahib under Section 498 A of the IPC for torturing and maltreating his wife Mandeep Kaur, daughter of Malkiat Singh of Mirzapur for not bringing dowry from her parents.


EARLIER STORIES

Jiwan Singh was married to Mandeep Kaur on November 11, 2011. Since the marriage, he allegedly used to torture and maltreat Mandeep Kaur for not bringing dowry from her parents.

In another case Reena, daughter of Gurparsad of Purhiran, alleged that her husband Lakhwinder Pal, father-in-law Harjinder Pal and mother-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur, all of Attowal village, used to torture and beat her for bringing dowry and a motorcycle from her parents. When she did not fulfil their demand her elder brother-in-law Harjinderpal allegedly sprinkled kerosene on her. She, somehow, managed to save her and fled from the house. She was married to Lakhwinder Pal in 2005.

The Mehtiana police has arrested Lakhwinder Pal and Harjinder Pal under Sections 323, 498-A and 34 of the IPC.

In one more case, the Dasuya police has booked Ravinder Singh, his sister Lakhbir Kaur, both of Jaja Kalan, police station, Gorayan district, Jalandhar, under Section 498-A of the IPC.

In her complaint, Sarabjit Kaur, daughter of Mehnga Singh of Toye, stated that she was married to Ravinder Singh on February 5, 2013. Since her marriage, her husband Ravinder Singh and sister-in-law Lakhbir Kaur were torturing and maltreating her for bringing Rs 2.50 lakh cash and a motorcycle from her parents.

ATM broken

Miscreants stole Rs 18.35 lakh from an automated teller machine (ATM) of the Punjab National Bank branch in Nandachaur on the Bhogpur-Bulhowal road last night. They broke open the ATM with a gas-cutter and decamped with the money. Sources said about Rs 21 lakh cash was lying in the machine at that time. The Bulhowal police has registered a case in this connection.
