3 pilgrims killed in accident
Phagwara, June 3
Three pilgrims were killed on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries when a Tata Nano car (PB-29K-8899), going from Sohana to Dera Radha Swami Satsang Beas, overturned and fell down in a ditch near Khangurra village on the Mohali-Phagwara bypass this morning. The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and his wife Madhu of Sohana and Bahadur Singh of Manakchaur near Mohali. Guru, the one-and-a-half-year-old daughter of the deceased couple, and the car driver Sharanjit Singh were injured in the accident. The minor girl was admitted to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital while Sharanjit was sent to the PGI, Chandigarh, due to his critical condition. The accident occurred when the car driver lost his control on the vehicle. — OC

Four booked in dowry death case
Phagwara, June 3
A young married woman, identified as Harpreet Kaur, was allegedly strangled to death at her-in-laws’ house in Talwan village yesterday. Gurpreet Singh, brother of the deceased, of Gunachor village, alleged that his deceased sister was being tortured physically and mentally by her in-laws to fulfil their demands of dowry. The police has booked four persons including husband, father-in-law, sister-in-law and mother-in-law of the deceased and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. — OC
