Drugs not stored properly in ESI hospitals
Our Correspondent

Hoshiarpur, May 21
The storage system for various types of syrups and eye drops in the ESI hospitals and dispensaries, being run by the government, has posed a threat to the health of industrial workers. The high temperature these days has hit the purpose of storing these drugs being stocked for the treatment of patients.

Darshan Kumar, senior manager of Kakkar Complex Steels Private Limited, Nasrala, criticised authorities of the ESI hospitals in Punjab, who had miserably failed to provide proper facilities to store the drugs.

Kumar said thousands of bottles of various types of syrups and eye drops were lying in stores of the ESI hospital in Hoshiarpur in an ordinary condition. The labels on these bottles clearly indicate to keep these drugs below 250 degree Celcius temperature. He inquired from many doctors about the effectiveness of these medicines being kept above the 250 degree Celcius temperature. All the doctors said instead of providing any relief to the patients, these medicines would harm them.

He said his factory had more than 300 workers, who were getting treatment from the ESI hospital. The management of his unit had been paying Rs 1.50 lakh monthly to the ESI for providing medical aid to its workers.

He demanded to provide required infrastructure in the ESI hospitals and other institutions to store drugs according to the prescriptions printed on their labels.

Dr Neelam Sidhu, in charge of the ESI Hospital, said there was no arrangement to store the drugs according to the prescriptions printed on the labels.
