CME on gastroesophageal reflux disease held

The AIIMA held a medical education seminar on the topic 'Gastroesophageal relux disease' here today.

The CME discussed the cause and cures related to the disease. It is primarily caused due to gastric reflex and involves the change in lifestyles as its main reasons.

While the key speaker on the occasion was Dr CP Sikka. He elaborated on the symptoms of the disease, the line of treatment involved and the precautions that must be taken to avoid it.

Sikka said since it is a disease which involves symptoms like nausea, heartburn and vomiting, it is often confused with heart problem and hiatus hernia due to which faulty diagnosis is not rule out.

He said when the gas reflux in the stomach moves upwards towards the oesophagus, it causes a burining sensation or irritation which give way to nausea or vomiting.

The prime causes of the disease include consumption of junk food, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle.

He said patients diagnosed with it primarily needed to reduce their weight, eat healthy food and stay away from junk foods.

As many as 40 doctors were part of the CME. Dr Rakesh Sharma president AIIMA, Dr Joginder Arora patron and Dr Surinder Sharma, secretary, were also present on the occasion.
