MS Baba, Chief Sports Officer, State Sports Council, said, “Before this development, our department had also approached the Sports Ministry to provide guidelines so that we can implement them in letter and spirit to ensure effective functioning”. “As far as the consensus between IOA and the Sports Ministry is concerned, to amend its constitution and abide by a revised set of government guidelines on tenure of office-bearers of National Sports Federations, it will be binding on all state sports associations to follow the newly-issued guidelines”, he added. Sources said the Sports Council had earlier asked all the affiliated associations that the letter it had received from the Union Sports Ministry, to adopt the age and tenure provisions of the sports code, may be treated as most immediate and a reply in this regard must be sent soon. Sources said like all the National Sports Federations, the sports bodies of the states were also advised that continuation of their recognition by the Government may be impacted if the already agreed amendments were not carried out. “The new guidelines of Sports Ministry, if implemented properly, will be of immense help in not only streamlining the functioning but also make the associations more accountable. Sports Council is trying its level best to uplift the standard of sports. It is also keeping a strict vigil on the working of all the affiliated sports bodies”, another officer maintained. The Sports Ministry, which had already initiated the process of redrafting the National Sports Bill, has agreed to consult all parties involved (IOC, IOA and the National Sports Federation) before moving ahead. The IOC said it would closely monitor and supervise the entire process besides issuing a roadmap for the IOA and its members to follow. |

Hotels assn opposes shifting of bus stand
Jammu, May 16 The association said despite serious concerns expressed by the business community in Jammu, as well as many political and social organisations, the shifting is against the interests of the traders. The association has alleged that this is being done despite the assurances given by the authorities at the highest level to take decision on this matter only after taking all the stake holders on board, and giving due regard to their concern. The Jammu hoteliers association has appealed to the authorities concerned not to take any steps at this stage, when Amarnath yatra is round the corner, which has the potential to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu as well as in Kashmir, which is quite favourable for the smooth and successful conduct of about two-month long yatra. A meeting of the association held here today under the chairmanship of its president, Indeerjeet Khajuria, appealed to the authorities to desist from taking any step which would ruin the business of main Jammu city, which is already under the threat of setback with train reaching Katra directly, with Vaishno Devi pilgrims bypassing Jammu city. He said the chief minister had assured them that the final decision in the matter would be taken only after addressing the concerns of business community of Jammu and other stake holders in the matter. “We strongly refuted the contention that with shifting of the bus stand from the B.C road will ease the traffic flow in the city, particularly on the B.C road and other places around the bus stand,” he said. |
