32 drug peddlers nabbed
Tarn Taran, April 17
The district police arrested 32 drug peddlers and recovered a huge quantity of drugs from their possession. Harwinder Singh Sandhu SP (Detective) told newsmen here today that police parties of different police stations, besides the CIA staff, in a special move against the drug peddlers, conducted raids against anti-social elements and arrested them with drugs. He added that a total 9.740 kg of intoxicant powder, 55 gm of heroin, 496 intoxicant injections, 4,400 tablets and some other material had been recovered from their possession. Cases were registered against the accused under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act. OC

Bus catches fire
Hoshiarpur, April 17
A Punjab Roadways bus (PB-07X-8202) of Hoshiarpur Depot bound for Talwara suddenly caught fire at the bus-stand here today. The fire engine of the municipal Fire Brigade struggled for about half an hour to control the fire. According to a spokesperson of the Punjab Roadways Depot, the cause of the fire was due to a short circuit in the electric wiring of the bus. No loss of life was reported in the incident. The police is investigating the matter in consultation with the Punjab Roadways authorities. OC
