Tribune News Service

Qadian (Gurdaspur), April 8
In a freak incident which ultimately tuned out to be fatal, a 16-year-old girl was burnt alive after a lighted mosquito repellent coil allegedly set her bed ablaze on Saturday in Qadian town, 25 km from Gurdaspur.

According to police sources, Shalini of Dharampura Mohalla, Qadian, was sleeping alone in a bedroom at her home last night when the tragedy stuck.

She shouted for help, following which neighbours rushed to her house. Her mother and elder sister were reportedly out of their home to attend a religious function.

The neighbours tried their best to resuscitate her but failed to revive her.

The police has initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPc.

Gurdaspur Member Parliament Partap Bajwa and his wife Charanjit Bajwa, who is also the MLA of Qadian, expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
