Old woman dies in road mishap 
Hoshiarpur, April 4
Shakuntla Devi (70), a resident of Machhian, died on the spot when a speedy Maruti Suzuki Swift car bearing number PB-07-U-2960 hit her near Laxmi Narayan temple at her village. The Garhdiwala police said the victim, Shakuntla Devi, was returning to her house from her fields on Wednesday evening.  Sources said when she reached near Laxmi Naryan temple the vehicle hit her and injured her as a result of which she died on the spot. The Garhdiwala police has booked car driver Narinder Singh of Sector 3 in Talwara under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in this connection.  Further investigations are going on the case, the police sources said. — OC

Youth, kin booked for abducting minor 
Hoshiarpur, April 4
The Mukerian police has booked Gurjit Singh of Musahibpur village for allegedly abducting a 13-year-old girl of Ghasitpur village. Reports said the youth married the minor girl on March 31. The police has also registered a case against the accused's sisters Paramjit Kaur, Jassa, and Harman Kaur, brothers-in-law Multan Singh, Sarwan and Gurnam Singh under Sections 363, 366 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Mukerian police said Jaswant Singh had adopted Amanpreet Kaur, daughter of his brother-in-law Karnail Singh, who was studying in Class VII. Jaswant said Amanpreet went to fetch water from a nearby handpump but did not return. Her father suspected that Gurjit Singh along with his sisters and brothers-in-law had abducted his daughter. Further investigations are going on in the case. — OC
