Lanka crisis
Reference to “Lanka fishing for trouble on Tamils” by Raj Chengappa (Ground Zero; Sunday Tribune, November 2), the writer has very wisely sifted the truth after having an interaction with the President of Sri Lanka. The President has assured world leaders about the reconciliation and rehabilitation of the defeated Tamils of his country. Strange is this reconciliation and rehabilitation process where trawlers are confiscated and innocent fishermen's are arrested. The Sri Lankan authorities should understand that neighbours can’t be changed. It is our attitude towards them which needs change. Picking up quarrel with neighbours on trivial matters like fishing does not speak well of developing good relations. The presumption of depletion of fish in deep sea is unfounded. Buoys can be floated with anchor to demarcate the water boundary between the two countries. Amnesty cannot be begged, it has to be obtained by the Indian foreign office. Shyam Sunder Airi, Kapurthala
Long wait for justice
Apropos the piece “30 yrs of commissions and omissions” (Sunday Tribune, November 2), the commissions were set up only to fool victims. The commissions were made just to pass time and not implementing their findings was a blatant misuse of power. The present government must reopen the cases and form an SIT to punish the culprits. Rehabilitation is another important aspect to make the children of victims lead a respectable life. Wg Cdr Jasbir Singh Minhas (retd), Mohali

Power circle
Inside the Congress, there is now no real support for the Nehru-Gandhi family (“The power relay within family circle”; Sunday Tribune, November 2). The damage is beyond repair. Even P Chidambaram is right in saying that a non-Gandhi can be Congress president. Some time ago no Congress member sat near Sonia Gandhi in Parliament. Such events depict a clear picture of the downfall of the Congress. Under the current leadership, its chance of revival is almost zero. The Congress is gone. There is no chance for Sonia to come back as the leader of the nation. She should now retire from politics, or if good sense prevails in some Congress members, she should be forced to retire. Right schooling
The article “Made-at-home schools” (Spectrum, November 2) is admirable. Parents are always eager to get their wards admitted to prestigious schools. The trend is changing, with some parents now choosing home schooling for their children instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school. It is not easy to give personal attention to every student in class. By adopting home-schooling, a child’s inclination can be judged better. And also children can be provided more reliable environment and can be free from peer pressure of early schooling. Anju D Anand, Solan
