New Delhi, August 31 During this fortnight, the municipal corporations would undertake cleaning of all unoccupied land like vacant plots, area around rail tracks, under flyovers or near parks, etc., where garbage is often dumped, Upadhyay said while adding that stress would be on sanitation in unauthorised colonies and resettlement colonies. The campaign would precede the already announced sanitation and health drive week to be observed from September 25 to October 2. Upadhyay, who is also the South Delhi Municipal Corporation's Standing Committee chairman, said responsibilities of both the municipal officials and the leaders would be fixed in the campaign. All sanitary inspectors, superintendent, superintendent engineer and zonal deputy commissioners would have to carry out surprise checks on sanitary drives in their areas and ensure that at least two colonies are taken up every day during the drive. All mayors, chairmen of standing committee, along with the three municipal commissioners, would carry out at least two surprise checks in their areas and order stern disciplinary action, including suspension, against the erring staff of the areas. Four-yr-old girl sexually assaulted at
school
New Delhi, August 31 The girl in her statement to the police and an NGO said that a juvenile working on school campus at Poorth Kalan village had sexually assaulted her. The police said that they had questioned the juvenile, but he had produced evidence, showing that he was not at school on the day of the crime on August 26. The police are now questioning others. The girl's medical reports confirm that she was sexually assaulted. The girl had complained of pain in the stomach to her mother on August 26, according to the police. "Her mother gave her some medicines for the pain, but did not take her to hospital for two days," said a police officer, privy to the details of the case. When the girl still complained of pain, her mother took her to a government hospital on Thursday. Doctors at the hospital told her mother that someone had sexually assaulted her. The girl then informed her mother that it was a school worker who had allegedly taken her to a secluded spot and assaulted her. Earlier, she had told the police that a 16-year-old boy working at the school was the culprit. "The boy claims that he was on a trip to the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu on the day of the incident and that he returned only the next day. He also produced the train ticket which proved he was not in Delhi," the officer said. The officer said the girl could be traumatised because of the incident, due to which she was not able to remember the accused. A case of sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered. |
