Agriculture Dept braces
for deficient monsoon
Jhajjar, June 19 The authorities are expecting at least 10 per cent less than the normal monsoon this year. “If it happens, we will have to take effective measures not only to ensure maximum production of kharif crops, especially bajra, but also make adequate fodder available for cattle,” said a higher official of the Agriculture Department. The local office of the Agriculture Department has started chalking out the action plan after collecting information about farmers, water table level, crops and sowing area in Jhajjar district. “We have planned to launch a special programme in the district to make farmers aware how they can ensure ample production of their kharif crops in the event of deficient monsoon. Since bajra crop requires a considerable amount of water, farmers find it tough to get a good yield if rainfall is deficient,” said Dr Madan Mohan, deputy director with the Agriculture Department in
Jhajjar. He said farmers would be informed about varieties of bajra that yield more in less time as well as consume less water. Farmers would also be made aware about the benefit of life-saving irrigation. “The most crucial task at hand is to ensure availability of fodder for cattle. Special measures will be taken to reduce the possibility of scarcity of fodder,” said Madan Mohan. Soon, an action plan

Bogus voters registered in several districts, says INLD
Hisar, June 19 The grandson of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala said: “In the Nalwa Assembly segment of Hisar, the software has detected nearly 21,000 voters who share either their name or father’s name or date of birth or all three. It can be a coincidence that, say 4,000 voters, share any of the personal details. So this put into question nearly 17,000 voters.” The details, Dushyant said, needed to be verified as could be duplicity of voters. “Besides using the software, party leaders will scrutinise the voters list manually to unearth the fraud and submit reports. Later, the party will approach the Election Commission (EC) to demand deletion of fake voters, inquiry into suspected case and strict action against officials found guilty,” the MP said. To prove his point of state machinery’s involvement in the registration of fake votes, Dushyant said the alleged role of Minister of State (Sports) Sukhbir Kataria in fake voter registration case had strengthened the INLD’s doubts. Dushyant hinted that the fraud ran deep. “The party had detected nearly 3,000 bogus voters in Kaithal district during the last Assembly elections. Recently, we found that 180 voters have the same address in Hisar,” he added. Hisar Tehsildar (election) Ramniwas said that anybody with a complaint about bogus voters had to submit an objection to the office in this regard and it would be investigated into. “We have removed names of nearly 11,000 voters who have either dead or are enrolled twice or more. Any other complaint would also be inquired into before taking further action,” he added. Hisar MP asks for office in Mini-Secretariat
Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala has asked for space to set up his office at the Mini-Secretariat for inspecting work under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development
(MPLAD) funds. The MP said he was entitled to set up a facilitation centre for monitoring works under the MPLAD scheme. “An MP is entitled to set up office as per the MPLAD guidelines, but no MP has ever bothered to do so. As per the provisions, an MP can spend two per cent of the MPLAD funds to maintain office. I have sought a room and other facilities from the Deputy Commissioner,” Dushyant said. The DC, ML Kaushik, said the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) has been asked to facilitate the MP to set up his office, as per the guidelines. Dushyant’s allegations

Trees make way for CM’s helipad in Jind village
Jind, June 19 However, Lohia residents said officers could have made the helipad in Aleva grain market, around 10 km from Dhatrath, but they made it in Lohia village by axing many trees in panchayat land near a private polytechnic. “Just to reduce the distance by 5 km, officers axed many trees without mandatory permission. We demand strict action against all officers,” said Fateh singh Lohia, a senior INLD leader of the village. When a call was made to village woman sarpanch Sushil Devi, her husband Uday Singh attended the call and said the administration neither asked his wife for land nor she allowed the axing of trees. As per norms if any panchayat wants to axe any tree, it first has to submit a request to the forest authorities concerned who take the final call. If allowed, the panchayat must auction the axed trees as per rates fixed by the Forest Department. Jind District Forest Officer (DFO) Shamsher Singh Saini said: “My officers have told me that a helipad was made over panchayat land after axing trees without permission. Yadav fails to make farmers give up land
Rewari, June 18 Terming Yadav’s endeavour as a political stunt, the farmers have refused to budge stating that the state government cannot acquire land without their consent, as per the new land acquisition policy. The farmers asserted they were ready to make any sacrifice to protect their fertile land. After the Cabinet meeting held on Sunday, Capt Ajay Yadav assured the farmers of compensation for their land as per the new policy, besides exempting houses built on this land from acquisition. Yadav had informed the farmers that he had raised the issue before Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at the Cabinet meeting, who agreed to exempt the houses built on the acquired land and to award compensation, as per the new policy. But the assurance added fuel to the ongoing agitation of the farmers who accused Yadav of playing with their sentiments by issuing politically motivated statement on the issue. “Where was Capt Yadav when we were running from pillar to post to protect our fertile land from acquisition? We had several times sought succour from him but to no avail. Since the assembly polls are now round the corner, he is trying to become our well wisher,” said Ajay Kumar, a farmer from Kalaka village. |

Hooda forms panels to resolve engineers’ issues
Ambala, June 19 The three-member committee will comprise the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and the Power Secretary, who is also CMD of power utilities. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held next week. The association, in its letter to the CM, had submitted four major demands including the recent decision of power utilities to fill the post of directors through advertisement. Dahiya said the decision was likely to have far-reaching consequences on promotion of engineers. The second demand pertained to proposed changes to the promotion policy for middle and senior level engineers. The changes in the policy would increase nepotism, favouritism and corruption and prove to be demotivating for honest and hardworking officers, Dahiya said. He said the pay scale of assistant engineers of Haryana power utilities should be increased on the lines of their Punjab and Delhi counterparts. The restructuring of discoms was pending for over a decade and the workload has increased manifold without the increase of corresponding staff. |
