2 youths killed in mishap:
Two youths died and one got hurt when a combine harvester rammed into a scooter near Mandi Gobindgarh on Friday. The deceased were identified as Onkar Kumar (15) and Anurag Kumar (12) of Khanna, while the injured was Manish Kumar (10). He has been admitted to a private hospital in Khanna. The harvester driver, who fled from the spot, has been booked.

4 of family die in accident:
Four members of a family died on the spot when their car collided head-on with a milk tanker near Bode village in the district on Friday. The deceased were Balkar Singh (59), his wife Paramjit Kaur, son Rachpal Singh and brother-in-law Dalbir Singh of Bathinda. The police said the tanker driver had been booked for causing death by negligence. The bodies were taken to the district hospital for a postmortem.

687 varsity students hired:
As many as 687 students of Thapar University were hired by 103 top global and Indian corporate companies during a placement drive on the campus. While 12 students were offered an annual package of Rs 23 lakh by Japanese IT firm Hikari Tsushin, two students landed jobs with DE Shaw India. Nine others were hired by Microsoft and Samsung Engineering.

Hearing in CLU scam on May 23: The Registrar in the office of the Lokayukta today fixed May 23 as the next date of hearing in the infamous cash-for-CLU scam. The INLD had alleged that Health Minister Rao Narinder Singh, CPS Vinod Bhayana, and MLA Jarnail Singh, Naresh Selwal and Ram Niwas Ghorela had demanded a bribe in lieu of getting CLUs.

Girl dies in freak accident: A 15-year-old girl, Pooja, died after her body parts accidentally came in contact with a running wheat threshing machine at Tanoh village in Bangana block here today. She succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital. Bangana Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manohar Lal is said to have provided a relief of Rs 10,000 to the victim’s father Nikka Ram.
