My thought process gathers pace in hill station: Ali Zafar
Dehradun, April 18 Presently in Dehradun for a break post the success of his latest film Gunday, Zafar said his next film would be based on sports. “It is too early to disclose the outline of the film or on which sport is it based, but I am trying to do something different this time,” he added. Born and brought up in Dehradun, Zafar completed his schooling from Marshall School before proceeding to Delhi for his graduation from Kirori Mal College. Dressed in a white printed shirt and denims, Zafar tasted success with his debut film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (MBKD), written and directed by him and starring Imran khan and Katrina Kaif. Zafar said he wrote the scripts of both his films while he was in Mussoorie. “Gunday and MBKD have a close connection with Uttarakhand apart from him. Both the films were born in Mussoorie. The hill-station is where my thought process gathers pace and I am able to write,” he added. On being asked about experimenting with a different genre each time, Zafar said: “I have always believed that confidence helps a
person to perform better. I don’t want to specialise in a particular genre and become over-confident. I want to get out of my comfort zone and come out with a fresh script every time. I get bored of myself if I perform within my comfort zone,” he added. Speaking about Uttarakhand, Zafar said a lot of people in Bollywood belong to the state. “We are trying to form a common platform for all those hailing from the state, so that we can represent Uttarakhand in Bollywood. Also, some of us are in talk with the government representatives to make it easier for the filmmakers to come and shoot in the picturesque locations of the state,” he added. “After the release of Gunday, a lot of industry’s big-wigs such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Mahesh Bhatt, Subhash Ghai called me to congratulate on the success of the film. In fact, Ghai sahib said my films reflected the style of yesteryears film writers and directors,” said Zafar. Singer Shadab Faridi accompanied Zafar, who sang Jashn-e-Ishqa song in Gunday film. Speaking about his Bollywood stint, the Sharanpur lad said
he considered himself lucky. “I have seen people struggling for several decades before getting a big break in Bollywood. I am lucky that
within eight years I have got the recognition and work with big banners. Jashn-e-Ishqa is a rage and wherever I go people ask me to sing it,” he added. |

Haridwar, April 18 He also met party workers and addressed public meetings here this morning. He has entrusted local party leaders with managing Renuka's poll campaign. And as a sitting legislator, it's my duty to seek votes for the Congress candidate on my five-year performance as Haridwar parliamentarian." At an election meeting at suburban Jwalapur, he urged people to vote in favour of Renuka. To woo voters of minority communities, he highlighted pro-minority welfare schemes carried out by the Central and Uttarakhand Governments. City Congress unit chief OP Chauhan said, "Besides being the Chief Minister, Harish Rawat is also sitting parliamentarian from where his wife is contesting the elections. It's normal that he will be campaigning in Haridwar extensively." Former MC chairperson Satpal Brahamchari said the Congress' campaign had been lagging behind the BJP owing to the delay by the former in announcing its candidates. However, now with Harish Rawat's participation, the campaigning had picked up pace. "Harishji is a veteran political leader. No one can match his high calibre, political acumen and vision. He will surely lead the party to victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections in the state," said Dr Sanotsh Chauhan, a senior party leader. On the other hand, BJP divisional president Vikas Tiwari termed the CM's frequent visits to Haridwar a desperate one. He said Harish Rawat was aware of the fact that his wife was a weak candidate in comparison to Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. |

Overloaded vehicles pose threat to commuters in Jaunpur region
Mussoorie, April 18 The jeeps/taxis, overloaded with schoolchildren and the local commuters, can be seen on the Aglar-Thatyur-Mussoorie road plying with impunity and posing a risk to human lives in the process. The damage to the roads due to the flood disaster in June is making the vehicles less stable and difficult to steer and resulting in bumpy rides for the
commuters. The hapless commuters are forced to travel on the roof and sometimes they hang at the back of the vehicles as no roadways bus or vehicle has been allocated on the Aglar-Thatyur-Mussoorie route. Most of the jeep owners ignore the specification regarding the amount of weight one vehicle can bear. Apart from this, due to overheating, most of the vehicles plying on the roads are in a worn down condition, thus increasing the chance of premature and dangerous blowouts. The lack of vehicle fitness test by the Transport Department is also one of the reasons, putting lives of the commuters at risk in the region. The commuters have to pay the price due to overloading as in case of an accident, the insurance company refuses to disburse the claims for any loss of life. With overloading, seat belts are often not used as the aim is to pack in as many persons as possible into the vehicle. The whole suspension system comes under stress and the weakest link in the vehicle gives away, resulting in accidents. Sajawanti, one of the commuters, lamented the fact that the overloaded vehicles are bane for the women as many anti-social elements try to take advantage of the situation, making it difficult for them to travel in such condition. The villagers from Sirwan, Senjal, Chanangaon, Parodi, Tikri,Kyari, Lalotna,Bichu,Dwargad etc are demanding the introduction of one bus by the government on the road to ease the pressure so that the commuters can travel without any risk. The ARTO, Tehri, Dr Anita Chamola, when contacted said that she has been receiving such complaints and a campaign to stop such activity will be carried out as soon as Lok Sabha elections are over in the state. |

Encroachments: Commissioner to submit report to Nainital HC
Dehradun, April 18 It may be recalled that responding on the Public Interest Litigation filed by Manmohan Singh Lakhera, the Nainital High Court had ordered removal of encroachments from footpaths in the state capital. In the PIL, Lakhera said: ''The footpaths were created in the city to facilitate walking space for the commuters. However, the footpaths have been encroached upon either by shopkeepers or hawkers and vendors. As a result, commuters have to walk on the busy roads and this leads to accidents.'' To oversee the work carried out by the administration, the court had appointed Dehradun District Bar Association president, Rajiv Sharma, as the Court Commissioner. The HC had directed Sharma to submit a report on the status of footpath encroachments in the state capital. A couple of days ago, District Magistrate-cum-Mukhya Nagar Adhikari BVRC Purshottam had stalled the drive, citing nomination of candidates as the reason. In fact the claims being made by the administration about Chakrata road being free of encroachments, following their drive, were grounded, when Sharma conducted an on-ground check and found a majority of the road and footpaths still under encroachment. In a meeting held recently, the various departments, including the DMC, PWD and MDDA, submitted the maps of the areas under their jurisdiction. ''Based on the maps and the actual site, we will be able to ascertain the encroachments. The maps were important to conduct the on-ground checks of the entire city,'' said Sharma. On being asked about the anti-encroachment drive being stalled by the administration, Sharma said: ''I am not concerned whether they carry out the drive or not. I will be conducting my checks and preparing a report based on the actual condition of the roads. Based on the directions from the High Court, I will be submitting my report within eight weeks.'' |
