Madipur glad-hands Verma
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 27
The BJP candidate from West Delhi Lok Sabha seat, Pravesh Verma, who is spending around 16 hours daily on campaigning, today got a good response in Madipur where the electorate assured him of their support.

People reminded him of the good work done by his father, the late Chief Minister of Delhi, Sahib Singh Verma, who was a known Jat leader and the only man in the BJP to challenge the senior Congress Jat leader Sajjan Kumar.

Verma started his campaigning at 8 am today and went to Madipur. He took a round of the village for two hours. Later, he visited Rajouri Garden, dominated by the Punjabis and Sikhs, and was welcomed by the Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

Verma who is a BJP MLA from Mehrauli, also visited the Hari Nagar assembly constituency where Sikh voters are in a sizable number. Though in the assembly elections, the AAP candidate appeared victorious, Verma was received enthusiastically by the local people.

Satinder Singh, a potential Sikh voter, said, "We have been devoted to BJP, but in the assembly elections, we were misguided. Now we have made up our mind to vote for the saffron party."

Amandeep Singh, another Sikh, said, "After 1984 riots, we left Congress. Our support is for the saffron party. As far as Verma is concerned, he is young and enthusiastic about doing development work."

In Tilak Nagar where a colony of the riots' victims exists, Verma appealed to the people to give him a chance to work for them.

He went to Janakpuri in the evening and spent nearly two hours there amidst a large number of supporters.

AAP takes potshots at BJP's silence on President's rule
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 27
The Aam Aadmi Party today took on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said that he is trying to mislead the people of Delhi by "distorting and hiding" facts about the imposition of President's rule in the national Capital.

According to AAP leaders, the Gujarat Chief Minister chose not to spell out the BJP's stand on the imposition of President's rule in Delhi. "Modi and his party should make public their stand on whether they want fresh assembly elections in Delhi or not and whether they agree with the Union home ministry's affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court that there is a possibility of the BJP attempting to form a government in Delhi. Why is the BJP hesitant in coming out clean on this issue? Is it afraid of facing the electorate of Delhi?" they questioned.

Accusing the BJP of forming an alliance with the Congress in the Delhi Assembly on February 14 to stymie the introduction of the Janlokpal bill by the AAP government, they said, "Modi on Wednesday evening betrayed nervousness by presenting his half-baked facts about the Delhi Assembly and the AAP."

"His party has been surprisingly silent on the issue since February 14 and the people of the national Capital are eagerly awaiting the BJP's response before the Supreme Court on March 31. If Modi and his party are seriously concerned about Delhi being under President's rule then what has prevented the BJP from making its stand public on whether it wants fresh assembly elections or not ," they questioned.

In the run-up to the parliamentary elections, Aam Aadmi Party's Muslim leader Maulana A.B.Ashrafi today joined the Congress at Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office. The vice-president of Peace Party, Furkan Qureshi, was also among the joinees.

Ashrafi termed AAP's Arvind Kejriwal a liar and said that he has betrayed the people of Delhi, including Muslims, which is the main reason for his leaving AAP.

"By dividing the Muslim votes, AAP is trying to fulfil the RSS and BJP agenda. So, it is necessary that Muslims should show unity," said Ashrafi. He appealed to Muslims that they should not get into the trap of RSS agent Arvind Kejriwal.

While hoping that in the coming days, more AAP workers would join the party, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said, "The Congress will not only show an improved performance in the elections, but will also produce exciting results."
